Michael J. Fox made a surprise appearance on stage with Coldplay on Saturday night at an annual music festival in the U.K.
The 63-year-old actor joined the band and played guitar for the final encore as the band’s frontman, Chris Martin, played their 2021 single “Humankind.”
“Here is another legendary Michael, ” Martin said of Fox before referencing the popular 1985 film, “Back to the Future.”
“One who just totally rocks. With his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox.”
Fox has been battling Parkinson’s disease since 1991.
Next, the crowd sang along to the song “Fix You” as Martin knelt next to Fox, who was playing guitar in his wheelchair.
Martin again referenced “Back to the Future” when he began singing “Go, Johnny, Go, Go, Go” and Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” which were both prominently featured in the movie.
After Fox left the stage, Martin said Fox was the reason the band Coldplay was formed. “Especially thank you to the main reason why we’re in a band, is because of watching ‘Back to the Future,’” the singer told the audience.
“So thank you to our hero forever, and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox,” Martin said. “Thank you so much, our hero.”

Fox reflected on the experience with a post on social media. “Glastonbury, all the love and thanks to the @coldplay team who took such great care of us,” the actor shared on Instagram Sunday. “And many thanks to Chris, Will, Johnny, Guy and Phil.”
“Oh yeah in case you were wondering…it was f***ing mind-blowing. There is a time for every band and a band for every time. This is @coldplay’s time,” he wrote.
Fox spoke candidly about his life expectancy during an interview in May. “I’m not gonna be 80,” Fox told journalist Jane Pauley at the time, as The Daily Wire previously reported. Though Pauley remarked that his life hasn’t been “squandered,” the actor said he’s been confronting his own mortality more often lately.
“Yeah, it’s, it’s banging on the door,” Fox said. “I’m not gonna lie. It’s gettin’ hard, it’s gettin’ harder. It’s gettin’ tougher. Every day it’s tougher.”
