Late-night comedy host Stephan Colbert took aim at President Joe Biden during his Wednesday night broadcast, delivering a Dr. Seuss-inspired poem suggesting the aging commander-in-chief was not up to the task.
Colbert, who has long been a Biden supporter — particularly when his opposition has been former President Donald Trump — openly questioned the president’s capabilities in a segment modeled after one of the famous children’s author’s nonsensical poems.

Introducing a book titled “Oh, The Places for Joe” — a parody of Seuss’ “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” — Colbert began, “Is he mentally fit? Can he serve a whole term? Can he beat RFK with his brain full of worm? Just ask him, just ask him, the man loves to talk, as long as you ask him before eight o’clock.”
Colbert suggested that perhaps it was time for Biden to step aside earlier this week, delivering a much more serious statement on courage and the type of attitude of self-sacrifice it would take for someone of Biden’s stature to take stock of the situation and place the country’s needs over his own.

“The competing virtue here, there’s another competing virtue, and that is self-sacrifice,” Colbert explained. “And self-sacrifice takes a particular kind of courage, and that is a courage I believe Joe Biden is capable of. I believe he is a good enough man, he is a good enough president, to put the needs of the country ahead of the needs of his ego.”
“And however painful that might be, it is possible that handing leadership to a younger generation is the right thing for the greater goodest,” Colbert finished, prompting laughs as he added, “Or good as, either one.”
A number of prominent figures have already begun to call for Biden to step aside, including actor/Democratic donor George Clooney — and the Biden team has reportedly said that they believe former President Barack Obama may be steering vocal criticisms of Biden to push him out of the 2024 presidential race.
