Texas Rolls Out New Initiative To Catch Illegal Immigrants Accused Of Violent Crimes

TOPSHOT - Migrants line up to be processed by US Border Patrol under the Stanton St. Bridge after entering the US in El Paso, Texas, on December 21, 2022. - The US Supreme Court halted December 19, 2022 the imminent scrapping of a key policy used since Donald Trump's administration to block migrants at the southwest border, amid worries over a surge in undocumented immigrants. An order signed by Chief Justice John Roberts placed an emergency stay on the removal planned for December 21, 2022 of Title 42, which allowed the government to use Covid-19 safety protocols to summarily block the entry of millions of migrants. Governor Greg Abbott announced a new initiative this week with the goal of apprehending illegal immigrants in Texas who have been charged with sex crimes and violent crimes.

On Wednesday, Abbott rolled out the “10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants” list alongside the Texas Department of Public Safety. Through the initiative, cash rewards will be given to anyone who provides law enforcement with information leading to the arrest of the illegal immigrants on the list.

“When President Joe Biden took office, he dismantled every effective border policy his predecessor put into place,” Abbott said. “As a result, we have seen record high levels of illegal immigration, including dangerous criminals and terrorists who are a threat to the public safety of our state and our nation.”

“Texas is a law-and-order state, and with the help of our fellow Texans, we will ensure that the illegal immigrants on this list are taken off our streets and put behind bars to keep our communities safe,” Abbott added. “Texas will continue to take unprecedented action to protect Texans and our state from President Biden’s border crisis.”

Illegal immigrants on the list include Victor Hugo Chox Gonzalez, who is wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child, and Omar David Zavala, who is wanted for sexual assault and making a terroristic threat.

Other charges faced by individuals on the list include sex abuse of a child and smuggling offense.

“Criminals from around the world who enter the United States illegally and commit crimes in Texas are a threat to public safety,” DPS Director Steve McCraw said. “Individuals on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List are likely to commit other crimes, and DPS is enlisting the public’s help in apprehending these offenders before they commit additional crimes. I thank Governor Abbott and Texas Crime Stoppers for their partnership in launching this important program.”

Tipsters are instructed to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip through the DPS website.

As illegal immigration has skyrocketed to record highs under Biden, crimes committed by illegal immigrants have made national headlines. Earlier this year, an illegal immigrant was charged with murdering Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student in Georgia. The suspect, José Antonio Ibarra, had previously been apprehended illegally crossing into the United States and released.

Former President Donald Trump has said that Biden has unleashed an illegal immigrant crime wave on the United States, recently slamming Biden after an illegal immigrant from Venezuela was accused of shooting two NYPD cops.
