Top Israeli Officials Following Raids To Free Hostages: We Won’t Stop Until They’re All Home

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks during a press conference at the Sheba Tel-HaShomer Medical Centre, in Ramat Gan on June 8, 2024 amid the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territory between Israel and the militant group Hamas. Israel said its forces rescued four hostages alive from a Gaza refugee camp on June 8 as it intensified an assault despite scrutiny over a deadly strike on a UN-run school there. Top Israeli officials said on Saturday that they will stop at nothing to bring home the remaining hostages that Palestinians terrorists kidnapped during their October 7 massacre in Israel.

The remarks come after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a rescue operation earlier in the day — which included airstrikes and special forces commandos executing raids at two locations in Gaza — that successfully led to the recovery of four hostages who were still alive.

“Today, Israel carried out a remarkable rescue operation, freeing four hostages held by Hamas,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We’re committed to getting the release of all the hostages, and we expect Hamas to release them all — but if they don’t, we’ll do whatever it takes to get them all back home.”

“Hamas is committing war crimes every day, including the holding of these hostages,” he added. “Our soldiers are performing in the most valiant and moral way to end this war with a victory against these killers and against these kidnappers, and we shall prevail.”

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said in a video message that the mission was “one of the most heroic and extraordinary operations I have witnessed over the course of 47 years serving in Israel’s defense establishment.”

“IDF, ISA and Special Forces, as well as the forces who supported [those in the field], have conducted an unprecedented operation — daring in nature, planned brilliantly, and executed in an extraordinary fashion,” he continued. “The various security agencies cooperated closely — the IDF, ISA, and Special Forces — acting as one single unit.”

He noted that there was “heavy” gun fire that erupted during the rescue operation, which he said happened in the most complex [urban environment in Gaza].

“I do not remember having completed operations of this kind — at this intensity and with this level of cooperation and success,” he said, later adding: “We will do everything possible to return all the hostages home.”
