A new ad in the Arizona Senate race is taking aim at Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego’s alliances with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and left-wing financier George Soros.
The commercial campaign from the conservative political action group Frontiers of Freedom Action casts Gallego as a radical lawmaker on par with the most extreme members of Congress.
“He has a voting record no different from [Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez,” said the group’s president, George Landrith, in a Tuesday press release. “All Senate Democrats are being held hostage by the left-wing of their party. They have to vote the extreme left wing agenda or they will face a primary challenge that is heavily financed [by] left wing billionaires like Soros.”
The ad highlights cast Gallego as an extreme lawmaker who voted to support “hyper-inflation,” “border catastrophe,” and “gender craziness.”
“Stop the Schumer-Soros smear machine and their chosen candidate Gallego,” the ad says. “Gallego will be the puppet senator of Schumer and Soros.”
“People tend to vote for incumbents because they have names they know,” Landrith said, “but put a left-wing Democrat’s voting record on the screen along with pictures of Schumer and Soros and make reference to the Democrat Party’s anti-Catholic bigotry, and then the polling numbers change.”
Landrith’s group launched an ad blitz across three western states last month. The ads attacked Democrat Senate candidates in Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico, highlighting the party’s anti-Catholic bigotry, including its support for forcing Catholic institutions to fund contraception and transgender surgeries. The ads, which aired in both English and Spanish, were adapted to air against Democrat Senate candidates in Ohio and Pennsylvania by the end of September.
While former President Donald Trump narrowly leads Vice President Kamala Harris in RealClearPolitics’ latest aggregate of polls for Arizona, former television journalist Kari Lake is behind Gallego by almost 7 points. Lake came within roughly 17,000 votes of winning the 2022 gubernatorial election against then-Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.
“Running against a left-winger like Gallego, Kari Lake should be running away with this race,” Landrith said. “She has great TV presence, and in the 2022 governor’s race, she won about 49.7% of the vote despite being heavily outspent and facing the usual sudden malfunctioning of voting machines in Republican areas of Maricopa County.”
The Federalist’s Shawn Fleetwood reported in November 2022 that “misconfigured settings in at least 70 of Maricopa’s 223 voting locations printed ballots that were rejected by many of the center’s vote tabulator machines.”
