Legal analyst Shira Scheindlin, a former federal judge, offered a surprising critique on “CNN This Morning,” questioning the relevance of Stormy Daniels’ testimony in the New York hush money trial involving former President Donald Trump. During her appearance on the show, Scheindlin said, “The material that came in was not relevant to this criminal case at all. I think it shows that she was trying to ‘get’ Trump.”

Scheindlin, known for her past criticisms of Trump, pointed out that Daniels appeared to have ulterior motives, aiming to prejudice the jury with her testimony. “She said she hates him. She said she’d like to see him in prison. I think she was purposely throwing out this stuff to make sure the jurors were prejudiced,” she added.

Daniels, a key figure in the trial yesterday, detailed the alleged sexual encounter with Trump back in 2006 and walked the jury through the $130,000 hush money payment made by Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen shortly before the 2016 election. Trump’s legal team, however, questioned Daniels’ credibility during a contentious cross-examination.

Despite her previous anti-Trump stance, Scheindlin criticized the prosecution’s reliance on Daniels’ testimony, saying that it could undermine the case. “I think she was purposely throwing out this stuff to make sure the jurors were prejudiced, particularly the women jurors, but probably half of the men too, were really put off,” she said.

CNN reported:

Adult film star Stormy Daniels dished out salacious details of her alleged sexual encounter with former President Donald Trump in 2006 from the witness stand on Tuesday, describing how they met at a celebrity golf tournament and what she says happened when she went to Trump’s Lake Tahoe hotel room.

In a mostly casual and conversational tone, Daniels recounted details from the floors and furniture in Trump’s hotel room to the contents of his toiletry kit in the bathroom. At one point in court, Daniels threw back her arm and lifted her leg in the witness box to re-create the moment she says Trump posed on his hotel bed for her, stripped down to his undergarments.

But some of the details Daniels described were so explicit that Judge Juan Merchan cut her off at several points. And Trump’s lawyers argued that Daniels had unfairly prejudiced the jury, asking Merchan to declare a mistrial. The judge denied the request but added that some of the details from Daniels were “better left unsaid.”

Crucially, however, Daniels also testified about the interest that Trump and his former lawyer Michael Cohen seemed to have had in buying her story after the “Access Hollywood” tape came out just before the 2016 election.

Trump, who denies the affair and maintains his innocence, faces 34 counts of falsifying business records. He was present in court during Daniels’ testimony, which detailed the payment made shortly before the 2016 election. Daniels was the prosecution’s 13th witness in the trial. Her testimony was intended to solidify the prosecution’s claim that the hush money was a coordinated attempt to conceal damaging information in violation of campaign finance laws. She is anticipated to return to the stand on Thursday to respond to further questions from Trump’s legal team.
