Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star kicker, has not only made headlines for his football skills, but also for his outspoken political views and religious beliefs. On Monday, Butker, who has been with the Chiefs since 2017, secured a contract extension that not only cements his place in sports but also places him at the top of the list as the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.
The Kansas City Chiefs announced they are signing Butker to a four-year, $25.6 million extension that includes $17.75 million guaranteed. The lucrative deal, which Butker represented and negotiated himself, extends his tenure with the Chiefs through the 2028 season.
The new contract came at a pivotal time, with Butker having one year left on his current deal. Under this new agreement, Butker’s career with the Chiefs, marked by significant contributions to the team’s success, including three Super Bowl victories since 2019, is set to continue its upward trajectory. Butker’s reputation as a reliable kicker is well-founded.
Originally a seventh-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers, Butker boasts a regular season field-goal conversion rate of 89.1% from 197 attempts. His playoff performance is even more impressive, with a success rate of 91.4% in field goals.

“There’s no place I’d rather be than with the Chiefs, excited to finalize a 4 year extension,” Butker wrote on X. “To the Heights!”

It has not just been his on-field achievements that have kept Butker in the public eye. In May, he gained national attention for a bold and polarizing 20-minute speech at the graduation ceremony of Benedictine College. During his address, Butker expressed his strong criticisms of Joe Biden, particularly condemning the president’s stance on abortion and his actions in relation to religious practices, which Butker described as “delusional.” His speech also touched on controversial topics such as IVF, surrogacy, the LGBT movements, Pride Month, and the role of women in the workforce.
“Bad policies and poor leadership have negatively impacted major life issues,” Butker began. “Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.
“Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the sign of the cross during a pro-abortion rally. He has been so vocal in his support for the murder of innocent babies that I’m sure to many people, it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice.”
WATCH:
“He is not alone,” Butker said. “From the man behind the COVID lockdowns to the people pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America, they all have a glaring thing in common. They are Catholic. This is an important reminder that being Catholic alone doesn’t cut it. These are the sorts of things we are told in polite society to not bring up. You know, the difficult and unpleasant things.”
“But if we are going to be men and women for this time in history, we need to stop pretending that the Church of Nice is a winning proposition. We must always speak and act in charity, but never mistake charity for cowardice.”
