Mandisa, the “American Idol” star who went on to launch a promising R&B career before passing away earlier this year, finally has seen her death attributed to a cause, the New York Post reported.

The 47-year-old singer died in April after suffering complications from class III obesity, according to an autopsy report obtained by People Magazine. The manner of death was listed as “natural,” the outlet reported. The disease is a chronic condition carried by those with a body-mass index of 40 or above, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The diagnosis puts sufferers at higher risk for strokes, heart attacks, diabetes, and some types of cancers.

The fifth season of “American Idol” saw Mandisa, a native of Sacramento, California, place in the final top 10, finishing ninth. She left an indelible impression among both viewers and the music industry, catapulting herself to a Grammy-winning career. Her debut album, “True Beauty,” was released in 2007, topping the Christian album charts and rising to number 43 on the Billboard Top 200 while breaking records for the debut of a Christian female artist. “True Beauty” received a Grammy nomination that year for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. Her fifth studio album, “Overcomer,” was released in 2013 to widespread critical acclaim and earned her the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

Nashville Christian music station K-LOVE first announced Mandisa's passing.

“Even more than her music, the Platinum-selling singer will forever be known for her huge heart and sincerity,” K-LOVE said in a statement to the Daily Mail.

“Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart,” David Pierce, station manager, added as well. “Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles.”

Shortly after her death, some of her “American Idol” peers came together for a performance in her memory. Singers included Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle, and Danny Gokey for a cover of “Shackles (Praise You)” by duo Mary Mary.

“Mandisa was an adored icon on ‘American Idol’ and in the music industry,” the show said in a statement at the time. “She had become a platinum-selling artist and had won several Grammys for her music. Her passing has left everyone on the show heartbroken, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family.”
