The family of iconic actor Bruce Willis has taken to thanking his fans the world over for a genuine change in his condition since being diagnosed with dementia one year ago.
Rumer Willis, his oldest daughter, sat with the New York Post to reveal that her dad and the familial caretakers around him daily benefit from regular shows of support from moviegoers who have struggled to adapt to Hollywood without the bravado of their favorite action hero.

“I think it’s such a testament to my dad,” Rumer, 35, told the outlet while promoting her upcoming residency at Café Carlyle. “And I think one of the most beautiful things … you know, whenever you’re sharing personal news with the world, it can always be a bit scary. But I think what’s been so lovely is the amount of people that reach out and just come up to me and share how much they love my dad or what an impact or just sharing that they’re praying for us.”
“I just have such deep gratitude for the love that comes our way,” she added.
Willis's current condition stems from an earlier diagnosis of aphasia, a language disorder that impairs a person's ability to speak, read, and write. In March 2022 his family — including his wife Emma Heming Willis, his ex-wife, Demi Moore, and his five daughters — announced that Willis, 69, would retire from moviemaking as he battled a mind-robbing disease that has grown progressively worse.
“Bruce has always found joy in life — and has helped everyone he knows to do the same,” the blended family said in a statement at the time according to the Post. “It has meant the world to see that sense of care echoed back to him and to all of us.”
Rumer, one of Willis's daughters with Moore, counts among her paternal siblings Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 30. Willis is also the father of daughters Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10, with Heming Willis, 45. He has been married to Emma since 2009.
Most importantly, she said that her father is “doing great” and bonding with her 1-year-old daughter Louetta, whom she shares with her partner, singer Derek Richard Thomas. “What’s lovely is my dad’s connection with my daughter is so beautiful and wonderful, and I feel so grateful for it,” she shared. After stepping out of the spotlight to focus on her family, Rumer said her return to the Café Carlyle gives her an opportunity to return to her musical passions.
“I feel like I’m such a different person,” she shared. “I’ve had so many different experiences and evolved so much, just with myself, that there’s almost no way for it not to be kind of unique and different and special. I think in a lot of ways becoming a mother and seeing the world change the way it has gives me a different perspective. I feel like a more grounded version of myself and more able to share from a deeper place.”
In March, Willis's daughter Tallulah Willis shared a heartfelt Instagram video of her and her father in their younger years, captioning that her struggles with autism are not dissimilar from her father's neurological struggles.
“Tell me you’re autistic without telling me you’re autistic 😂,” she wrote.
