A call into C-SPAN’s morning show brought attention to media bias, with a caller voicing frustration over the constant focus on former President Donald Trump while largely ignoring serious allegations against Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The caller voiced his concern that Emhoff’s scandal had not received the media attention it deserved, particularly in comparison to the overwhelming focus on former President Donald Trump. The call comes amid growing attention on a Daily Mail report claiming that Emhoff slapped an ex-girlfriend in 2012 at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

“The first thing you guys talk about was usually supposed to be the top story, but today was all about Trump,” the caller said. “That’s all we hear about Trump and how bad Trump is. So what I wanted to ask is, are you going to talk about… the first gentleman, Doug Ammerhoff, what he’s doing, what they’re exposing him for his, he got a nanny pregnant.”

According to the report, Emhoff’s ex-girlfriend, referred to as “Jane,” claimed that during a trip to France, Emhoff became physically aggressive with her following a disagreement. Jane’s account has been backed by three friends who detailed that Emhoff’s violent outburst was spurred by jealousy after Jane spoke with a valet. Jane reportedly ended the relationship that night.

The story has gained traction in conservative media, with outlets like the Washington Times picking up the allegations. Yet, it remains largely unreported by mainstream outlets, resulting in questions among critics about media bias and selective coverage.

Jane’s friends, who have remained anonymous in the Daily Mail report, further alleged that during their relationship, Emhoff confessed to impregnating his children’s nanny and subsequently paying $80,000 as part of a non-disclosure agreement. They also accused him of being responsible for the nanny’s miscarriage, although he has denied any wrongdoing. The explosive claims have only added fuel to the fire, with many people now calling Emhoff’s public persona into question.

Emhoff, who has built a reputation as an advocate for women and an outspoken critic of so-called toxic masculinity, faces a potential blow to his image. He has been praised by many in the media for his support of women’s rights and his efforts to redefine masculinity in the political arena. In an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, Emhoff spoke about the importance of supporting women, saying, “To me, it’s the right thing to do.” However, these latest accusations present a stark contrast to the image he has cultivated.

In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Emhoff has strongly denied the claims, calling the report “untrue” and labeling any suggestion that he assaulted a woman as “false.” Despite the denials, the allegations have continued to circulate. The story is emblematic of a larger issue: the media’s reluctance to cover scandals involving prominent Democrats, especially those close to Vice President Harris. The timing of the news is particularly damaging, as the 2024 presidential election heats up. Harris, who has yet to comment publicly on the matter, may soon face questions about Emhoff’s past.
