A new portrait of Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has sparked a wave of outrage among royal fans. The painting, revealed on the cover of Tatler magazine's July issue, was created by British-Zambian artist Hannah Uzor. This follows the mixed reactions to King Charles III's portrait unveiled just last week at Buckingham Palace.
The controversial artwork shows Catherine in a white gown, adorned with a yellow brooch and a blue sash, topped off with an ornate tiara. The inspiration for the portrait appears to draw from several of her past looks, but fans are not pleased.
Artist Hannah Uzor defended her work, explaining the process behind capturing the essence of the Princess. “It’s really important to capture the soul of the person,” she said in a video posted by Tatler. “I’ve spent a lot of time looking at her pictures, watching videos, seeing her with her family, and in various public engagements.”
“The process for painting this portrait, apart from studying the photographs and the videos, is actually coming up with a sketch. So once I'm happy with a sketch and I've done a series of sketches in my sketchbook, particularly looking at her expression was really key and so I've done several sketches trying to capture her expression and once I'm happy with that I can then proceed to figure out what she's going to wear.”

URGENT POLL: Should Pelosi Be BANNED From Trading Stocks?
Social media lit up with criticism shortly after the magazine cover was revealed. “This looks nothing like the Princess of Wales. It's so awful, it's disrespectful,” one user tweeted. Another fan commented, “Doesn’t look like Catherine at all. If she wasn’t wearing that dress, I’d have no clue who it's meant to be.”
Critics didn't hold back, comparing the portrait to a “bad GCSE project” and questioning the artist's intentions. One particularly harsh tweet read, “Are you kidding me? What is that rubbish of a painting? Hope you won’t sell any of those trash copies … you must be joking!”
Despite Uzor's dedication, many remain unconvinced. “This picture is atrocious,” another declared, summing up the general sentiment.
REACTIONS:
So sorry. Is this some sort of slight? Who put you up to doing this? There was no need for this whatsoever. I’ll remind everyone this is not an Official portrait. Nor is it in any way asked for by the Royal Family.
