Erich Anderson, best known for his role as the “Felicity” father with high expectations for his aspirational daughter, has passed away after a “brutal” cancer battle.

The New York Post reported that Anderson, 67, passed away on May 31st, according to an online obituary. The news was confirmed by his wife, actress Saxon Trainor, in her own statement on Instagram.

“My husband Erich died this morning. I am sharing my brother-in-law Michael O’Malley’s words as I am too bereft now to write anything,” she wrote. The statement by O'Malley goes on: “My brother in law Erich Anderson passed this morning after a brutal struggle with cancer. He had a long successful career as an actor—he was on that old show 30-something; he was Felicity’s father on “Felicity;” he was killed in a basement in a Friday the 13th movie: he was on Star Trek and dozens of other shows. He was a smart and funny guy, a fantastic cook; he wrote three great novels which you can find on Amazon. I’ll miss him but his ordeal is over.”

Across nine episodes, Anderson played Dr. Edward Porter on “Felicity” opposite his eponymous daughter, played by Keri Russell, who attempts to follow in her father's footsteps as a pre-med student at the University of New York while waiting tables. Anderson also earned multi-arc roles on moderately successful series including “Boomtown” and “Close to Home.” He also guest starred in “Dallas,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Melrose Place,” “Touched By an Angel,” “The X-Files,” “Bones,” and “Monk.”

Eve Gordon, the actress who played wife Barbara Porter on “Felicity,” paid tribute to her colleague in her own social media post, the outlet added.

“My beautiful friend, Erich Anderson, has said goodbye,” Gordon, 63, wrote on Instagram. “He was a magnificent part of the world. I loved him. I wish you’d known him, there was no one like him. So funny, so open to whatever the day brought him, so wickedly cynical and joyous at once. After JJ [Abrams] and Matt [Reeves] on Felicity made us get divorced, I saw him less on set, but was always happy when we found each other in LA, we’d hang out and talk for hours. He was so smart. Ah, look at this Erich, I’m using the past tense.”

Gordon added, “I hope I see you again in dreams and other dimensions. Fly high, my friend.”

Anderson is survived by his wife. They had been married since 2003.
