Award-winning actress Christina Applegate has admitted that she is no longer able to complete basic tasks like showering as a result of her worsening multiple sclerosis condition.
The Emmy winner opened up on Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s “MeSsy” podcast where she painfully detailed how simple hygiene is now a grueling battle as her limbs refuse to coordinate with her brain.
“I need to buy stock in Cottonelle,” she joked. “I can’t stand in my shower. There’s no f****** way.”
There are ways around the ordeals, Applegate explained, but none of them are easy.
” I have such a small bench and my ass is so huge these days that I can’t sit on it, it’s like I slip right off of it,” she said on the podcast. “So, I’ve been Cottonelle-ing my body.”
Beyond the basics, she has “no energy” for much more in life these days.
“Legs are just done. I can’t get circulation. I can’t get them to stop hurting,” adding there is an “insane tingling that just has spurts of tingles that are weird coming from, like, my butt down.”
Doing much more than that, she admitted, leaves her “feeling like I’m going to fall.”
The pain behind her eyes is also doubling, she said.
“I haven’t slept for 24 hours because my eye is doing something weird where every time I close my eye to go to sleep my right eye starts to shift,” she said.
Outside of interactions with her 12-year-old daughter Sadie, Applegate isn't interacting with many more of her “Married with Children” colleagues lately.
“[She’s] always like, ‘Oh Mama, that’s bad.’ I make her smell my armpits, just to make her vomit,” Applegate said according to the Daily Caller. “I smell so bad. And it's, like, awful. Thank God I'm always alone so that no one smells me except for Sades.”
From the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Applegate earned a number of Emmy and People's Choice Awards for various roles on “Friends,” Samantha Who?” and “Married with Children.” For her role in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity (2005), she earned a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
