Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have filed legislation to rename Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport after former President Donald J. Trump.

The bill, filed by Congressman and Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), would rename the facility the Trump International Airport. The bill was co-sponsored by Reps. Michael Waltz (R-FL), Angy Ogles (R-TN), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Barry Moore (R-AL), and Troy Nehls (R-TX).

“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump,” Reschenthaler said in a statement to Fox News. “As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”

The brief bill dictates that “the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia shall after the date of the enactment of this Act be known and designated as the ‘Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

WATCH:

“Any reference in any law, regulation, map, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the airport referred to in subsection (a) shall be considered to be a reference to the Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

Rep. Moore added in his own remarks that renaming the airport after President Trump would be in the same vein as when former President Bill Clinton signed the 1998 law establishing the Ronald Reagan International Airport, formerly known as the Washington National Airport.

“In 1998, Congress renamed the National Airport in Washington after one of our great presidents, Ronald Reagan. It is only fitting that we would do the same for another one of our greatest presidents, Donald J. Trump, especially as he stands against the onslaught of weaponized government to fight for Americans like us,” Rep. Moore said.

“I can see no more fitting recognition than naming both airports in our nation’s capital after America’s two best presidents: DCA after President Reagan and Dulles after President Trump,” added Rep. Gosar.

Dulles is ranked 33rd out of 764 U.S. airports in terms of annual passengers, according to a 2023 report by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Roughly 25 million travelers passed through both national and international terminals last year. Dulles is also the fourth-largest geographical terminal, according to the website Air Advisor.

Rep. Reschenthaler cited “unprecedented wins for our nation” under President Trump, including record job creation, low unemployment, low inflation, and a secure southern border.
