The U.S. House on Thursday passed a party-line vote condemning Vice President Kamala Harris for her failures as the Biden administration’s “border czar” following months of upheaval that have seen a historic amount of illegal crossings along the southern border.
Just six Democrats joined all 216 Republicans in passing a resolution that whacks the newly minted presidential candidate on an issue front of mind for American voters and remains a potent line of attack against Harris less than 100 days before the election. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) introduced the motion and celebrated its passing with a measure of bipartisan support.

“Today my resolution condemning Kamala Harris for her role as Joe Biden’s open border czar passed the House. Let me be clear: Harris and every elected Democrat owns this historic border crisis that has turned every community into a border community,” wrote the New York Republican on X. “It is time that we return to President Donald Trump’s border security policies that put the safety of American citizens first. At our Northern Border in the Swanton Sector, I have seen firsthand with the Border Patrol the disastrous consequences of Kamala Harris’ failed Far Left open border agenda which caused a historic surge in illegal crossings like we have never seen at our Northern Border before including individuals on the terrorist watchlist. Kamala Harris didn’t just create a national security crisis, but a humanitarian crisis that has endangered the lives of millions. House Republicans will secure the border.”

Although the flood of illegal crossings has subsided in recent weeks, voters consistently rank immigration as a top concern and for the first time on record oppose a matriculation of new immigrants, according to Gallup. Harris, who was tapped early on to serve as the administration’s border czar, has since distanced herself from the title and benefited from mainstream media outlets like Axios attempting to whitewash her history of mismanagement. She made a single visit to the border community of El Paso, Texas in 2021 that was heavily sanitized by border officials to hide the true scope of the humanitarian crisis, according to the New York Post.
The House resolution will almost certainly not be taken up by the Democratic-controlled Senate. In over four pages, Rep. Stefanik laid out in stark terms Harris’s incompetency in stemming the flow of migrants that at one point reached 10,000 per day as border officials received conflicting orders about how and whether to intercept new arrivals. Many have been given court days extending into the next decade and are generally free to move about the U.S. without monitoring.
“No matter what congressional district you go to, the number one issue facing Americans is Kamala Harris’ open border crisis,” Stefanik said during debate on the House floor Thursday, The Hill reported. “And by every metric, Kamala Harris has failed to secure our borders, instead advancing Far Left Democrats’ failed open border policies and the needs of illegal immigrants over the safety of Americans. Kamala Harris has failed in overseeing American safety by refusing to secure the border. She has proved that she is unfit to lead.”
