After a series of conversations with former President Donald Trump’s campaign team, conservative influencer and Second Amendment advocate Kyle Rittenhouse has decided to back Trump for president. In the early hours of Friday morning, Rittenhouse posted a video to social media platform X, stating that he would be writing in former Congressman Ron Paul on his ballot in November instead of voting for Trump. His reasoning concerned the issue closest to his heart, which is the Second Amendment.

“Over the past 12 hours, I’ve had a series of productive conversations with members of the Trump’s team and I am confident he will be the strong ally gun owners need to defend our Second Amendment rights. My comments made last night were ill-informed and unproductive. I’m 100% behind Donald Trump and encourage every gun owner to join me in helping send him back to the White House,” Rittenhouse’s post read.

Rittenhouse rose to prominence after being acquitted of shooting two men dead during the George Floyd-inspired riots in August 2020. The jury found his actions during the incident were a justified case of self-defense. Ever since, Rittenhouse has become a voice for the importance of gun rights. His first post concerning his not backing Trump in the general election was said to be inspired by the former president’s “weak” policies on the Second Amendment.

The responses to the flip were mixed. Many MAGA supporters were thrilled to see Rittenhouse rethink his position and put his support and influence behind Trump. Others were hesitant and even insulted him for such a quick turnaround.

“Glad you came to your senses. Trump 2024. A vote for ANYONE else is a vote for gun-grabbing Kamala. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you,” one user said on social media. “Bro didn’t even make it 12 hours lol,” another stated on X. “Awesome to see man. The people that got nasty and attacked rather than offering mere disagreement should not be forgotten,” someone else replied.

Founder of Gays Against Groomers Jaimee Michell commented, “You are allowed to vote for whoever you want to. 50 year old men throwing tantrums on the internet don’t have a say in that. So sorry for all the vitriol you received.” Josie, the Redheaded Libertarian, a right-leaning influencer, said, “I hope Donald Trump will consider Ron Paul as an adviser.”
