Former President Donald Trump has confirmed his acceptance of ABC News’ invitation for a one-on-one debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, set for September 10. Trump announced the upcoming showdown at a press conference held at his Mar-a-Lago Club on Thursday. Vice President Harris has also verified her participation in the debate, setting the stage for the first debate between the two.

Former President Trump had initially expressed his eagerness to confront Joe Biden in a second debate, accepting ABC’s initial invitation back in May. However, following Biden’s withdrawal from the race in July, Trump hinted at some reluctance to engage Harris in a debate on ABC. In response, Harris openly accused Trump of “running scared” and attempting to dodge the debate.

ABC News announced that David Muir and Linsey Davis will serve as moderators for the upcoming debate the network is hosting.

Muir, an established figure in American journalism, is currently serving as the anchor of ABC’s “World News Tonight,” a role he has held since 2014. His journalistic career has been marked by his adept handling of major news stories and his role as a primary anchor for breaking news and special events coverage at ABC News. Muir’s extensive experience in the field includes reporting from hotspots around the world and conducting high-profile interviews with numerous world leaders, making him a respected name in news. Linsey Davis has been with ABC News since 2007 and has covered a wide range of stories, from national crises to presidential elections. Davis is also noted for her work on social issues, particularly her reports on the complexities of race and religion in America.

“All of that being said, I think it’s very important to have debates. And we’ve agreed with Fox on a date of September 4th. We’ve agreed with NBC, fairly full agreement subject to them, on September 10th. And we’ve agreed with ABC on September 25th. So we have those three dates. So we have September 4th, September 10th, and September 25th,” Trump said during his news conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday.

“We have spoken to the heads of the network, and it’s all been confirmed, other than some fairly minor details. Audience, some location, which city would we put it into, but all things that will be settled very easily, very, I think it will be very easy. The other side has to agree to the terms. They may or may not agree.”

The former president also took the opportunity to criticize Harris, saying, “I don’t know if they’re going to agree. She hasn’t done an interview. She can’t do an interview. She’s barely competent, and she can’t do an interview. But I look forward to the debates, because I think we have to set the record straight. Why is it that millions of people were allowed to come into our country from prisons, from jails, from mental institutions, insane asylums, even insane prisons”

This comes as Kamala Harris has dodged the press for 18 days. She became the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden threw in the towel on July 21.
