President Joe Biden announced the termination of his 2024 reelection campaign on Sunday, citing the “best interest of my party and the country” as his rationale. The decision was communicated through a post on X, where Biden threw his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him.

The announcement came shortly after Biden, 81, was seen returning to Delaware under concerning circumstances. Biden’s health has been under scrutiny lately. On Monday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk shared insights from a source close to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, suggesting a more severe scenario for Biden than previously disclosed.

According to the source, there was an “emergency situation” that required immediate medical attention for the president in Las Vegas, prompting the U.S. Secret Service to prepare for a swift departure to University Medical. However, plans changed abruptly with Biden being medivac’d back to the East Coast, speculated to be Johns Hopkins.

Kirk wrote, “I didn’t think too much about this lead, seemed too wild to be true, but given that Joe Biden has been out of public sight for days and dropped out of the race via an đť•Ź post, and his brother James indicated health was a factor, I’m beginning to grow more curious if COVID or something else has been more serious than reported.”

The lack of transparency and sudden changes in the president’s schedule have left many wondering about the true state of Biden’s health and the potential impact on the upcoming presidential race. Four days prior to his announcement, Biden was seen making a sluggish descent from Air Force One at Dover Air Force Base after testing positive for Covid-19. Since then, he has not been seen in public, fueling rumors and concerns about his well-being.

On Monday, Frank Biden suggested that the president’s health is worse than previously know. “I’m incredibly proud of my brother. Selfishly, I will have him back to enjoy whatever time we have left,” Frank told CBS News. According to Frank, the president’s health and vitality were “absolutely” a major factor in his decision to step aside.

Biden, born in 1942, has faced several health concerns over the years. His medical history includes having undergone surgery to treat his gallbladder and experiencing non-melanoma skin cancers. More recently, he has shown signs of aging, such as a stiffened gait and speech stumbles which his physicians attribute to orthopedic injuries and the natural aging process. His 2021 medical report claimed he was in good overall health, fit to handle the duties of the presidency.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden wrote in Sunday’s letter. “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

“For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work,” the president wrote. “And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.”

Biden is reportedly preparing to address the nation later this week.
