Sinead O’Connor’s cause of death has been revealed exactly one year after she passed away.

The “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer’s death certificate lists that she died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, according to a report from the Irish Independent.

The death certificate noted that O’Connor’s passing was a result of “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.”

The certificate was reportedly registered by the late Grammy winner’s husband, John Reynolds, in London this past Wednesday.

O’Connor died at the age of 56 in her London home on July 26, 2023, after medical personnel found her unresponsive. The next day, police labeled her death as “suspicious” and announced that an investigation would be launched.

In January, London’s Southwark Coroners Court announced that O’Connor had died of “natural causes,” adding that the determination would mark the conclusion of the investigation.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” O’Connor’s family said at the time of her passing.

O’Connor released her bracing debut album, The Lion and the Cobra, in 1987, which featured chart-topping hits like “Mandinka” and “I Want Your (Hands On Me).” She followed the record up with Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, a major success that led to her global breakthrough.
