Minnesota Governor Tim Walz set the internet on fire with an absolutely bizarre response to a question on gun violence during Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate.

“I’ve become friends with school shooters, I’ve seen it,” Walz told tens of millions of Americans in the head-scratching moment.

The puzzling response emerged as one of the most viral moments of the debate and drew several reactions.

“Second time he has said, ‘I’ve been friends with school shooters.’ What does he mean by this? Is he insane?” former President Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

“Walz made a very big mistake on Gun Shooters. Does anyone think he knows what he said? Will he have a News Conference after the Debate to apologize to the parents and others who were so horribly hurt?” the former president added in a follow-up post.

Trump also posted a meme of a Trump-Vance 2024 campaign sign complete with the phrase, “NOT FRIENDS WITH SCHOOL SHOOTERS.”

“Tim Walz is winning the school shooter vote for sure!” said conservative commentator and activist Gavin Wax.

The Blaze contributor Jesse Kelly added, “I thought my friends were a little rough around the edges but Tim Walz just said he’s friends with school shooters.”

Others posted memes mocking what was one of the most bizarre statements ever uttered in a major party debate.

When it comes to stopping school shootings, Walz pointed to Finland as an example. “They don’t have this happen,” the Minnesota governor said. “Even though they have a high gun-ownership rate in the country, there are reasonable things that we can do to make a difference.”

He then hinted that gun confiscation is likely necessary, though he failed to mention which weapons would be banned.
