Former President Donald Trump shocked Fox & Friends hosts on Wednesday morning when he called in live following his ABC News presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. The unexpected moment occurred when Fox News host Steve Doocy informed Trump that the network had offered to host a second debate moderated by Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier. Trump’s response left the hosts speechless, as he bluntly rejected the idea of those two moderators, favoring other personalities on the network instead.
“Now that the first debate is underway between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, FOX News Media is re-upping its proposal. As the Harris Campaign has stated, the American people will have another opportunity to see both on stage in October,” Fox News president & Executive Editor Jay Wallace and Vice President of Politics Jessica Loker announced on Tuesday night. Fox proposed scheduling a debate in October, aligning with the start of early in-person voting in several battleground states. This proposal floated October 9 in Arizona, October 15 in Georgia, and October 16 in North Carolina.

During the conversation, Doocy brought up Fox News’ letter to both the Trump and Harris campaigns, which offered to hold a second debate in Arizona on October 9, moderated by MacCallum and Baier. Without hesitation, Trump interrupted, saying, “I wouldn’t want to have Martha and Brett.” His response stunned the Fox & Friends hosts, and their surprise was palpable as they attempted to steer the conversation forward.
“I’d love to have somebody else other than Martha and Brett,” Trump added, pointing out that he would prefer hosts like Sean Hannity, Jesse Watters, or Laura Ingraham, well-known figures on Fox News who have often expressed their support for Trump. He specifically praised Watters for his debate commentary earlier that night, saying, “Jesse really got it. Jesse said Trump won that debate. We won that debate by a lot.”

Trump’s comments followed the highly anticipated ABC News debate between him and Vice President Kamala Harris. The two sparred over critical issues with just under two months left until Election Day. Both candidates aimed to make their case to the American people, as voters have increasingly demanded more policy substance and clarity on how Harris would address the country’s challenges.
The debate received mixed reactions from political pundits, with some praising Harris for outlining her broader vision, while others criticized her for lacking detailed plans. Trump, meanwhile, asserted that his performance was one of his best, reinforcing his platform on key conservative issues.
Fox News had hoped to capitalize on the interest generated by the ABC News debate by hosting another showdown between the two candidates. Trump’s rejection of the offer, however, showed his ongoing tensions with parts of the network, especially with hosts or journalists who are perceived as less loyal to his administration.
Fox News, a network that has been a stronghold of conservative voices, has also drawn the former president’s ire when certain hosts or segments criticize him. As Election Day approaches, the potential for another debate between Trump and Harris remains uncertain.
