A recent Wall Street Journal column raised the alarms on President Joe Biden's mental acuity, and left-wing news hosts are not too pleased. The report sparked a fiery meltdown among the “Morning Joe” panel on Wednesday. Detailing troubling instances from private meetings, the column highlighted Biden's memory lapses and communication struggles.

As the 2024 election looms, the observations amplify ongoing voter concerns about whether the president's mental capacity is up to the rigorous demands of his office. However, that didn't stop MSNBC from displaying their partisanship.

“I am sort of actually embarrassed for the Wall Street Journal with this piece,” said journalist Mike Barnicle. He continued to defend the president's capabilities, claiming Biden has the ability to engage in detailed foreign policy discussions without notes. “This was a classic hit piece, probably ordered up by the 93-year-old, fifth-time married Rupert Murdoch over the weekend.”

“Is he 81 years old? Yes. Is he a bit slower in terms of his reactions to some things? Probably.” Barnicle later ceded.

Co-host Willie Geist also weighed in on the implications of focusing on Biden's age. “Joe Biden is eighty-one years old…does he move a little slower and speak a little softer than he did 15 years ago? Sure does,” Geist then claimed, “This does have the feeling of Trump acolytes laundering their attacks through a reputable, prestigious news organization.”

According to the Wall Street Journal:

When President Biden met with congressional leaders in the West Wing in January to negotiate a Ukraine funding deal, he spoke so softly at times that some participants struggled to hear him, according to five people familiar with the meeting. He read from notes to make obvious points, paused for extended periods and sometimes closed his eyes for so long that some in the room wondered whether he had tuned out.

In a February one-on-one chat in the Oval Office with House Speaker Mike Johnson, the president said a recent policy change by his administration that jeopardizes some big energy projects was just a study, according to six people told at the time about what Johnson said had happened. Johnson worried the president’s memory had slipped about the details of his own policy.

Drawing on conversations with 45 individuals over multiple months and spanning both major political parties, the Wall Street Journal's article revealed insights into Biden's meeting conduct. “Most of those who said Biden performed poorly were Republicans, but some Democrats said that he showed his age in several of the exchanges,” the outlet reported.

“I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house,” former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said. “He’s not the same person.”

“If you want to talk about international affairs, if you want to talk about how to get bipartisan legislation, Joe Biden is light-years ahead of all of them,” Joe Scarborough said. “And the fact that The Wall Street Journal knew these quotes were out there, that editors — I’m not looking at the reporter. People always blame the reporter. … I don’t even know what to say. I really don’t even know what to say here.”

Biden would be 86 by the end of a possible second term.
