[Update: Several reports on Thursday said Republicans had reached a new short-term spending deal in order to avoid a government shutdown.]

Having run roughshod over D.C. for the past four years, the Uniparty seemingly developed an aura of invincibility.

That was evident, critics say, in the spending bill House Speaker Mike Johnson attempted to ram through this week.

Then the Uniparty hit a MAGA/DOGE brick wall on Wednesday.

After a joint statement from President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance denouncing the spending bill, Elon Musk fire off more than a dozen posts to X in an effort to stop the “piece of pork” bill.

“Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years!” Musk said in his first post.

“Ever seen a bigger piece of pork?” Musk posted on X alongside a photo of the printed out spending plan which piled up higher than a can of Diet Coke.

After 10 more posts by Musk, Fox News announced that the bill was effectively dead and credited Musk and X for the bill’s defeat: “BREAKING: Fox News reports that @ElonMusk’s posts vowing to fund primary challenges against Republicans who support the Continuing Resolution have effectively killed the bill.”

Fox News reported Thursday afternoon that House Republicans have struck a deal on a backup plan for averting a government shutdown by the Friday deadline.

Fox News Digital, citing multiple sources, reported the deal would extend current government funding levels for three months and also suspend the debt limit for two years – something Trump has demanded.

“What they had yesterday was unacceptable. … In many ways it was unacceptable. It’s a Democrat trap,” Trump said on Thursday.

“Deal has been reached. GOP will get it done. Go team,” Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna posted on X. She later added that Trump “was instrumental in brokering the deal. The art of the deal,”

“There is an agreement,” Oklahoma Republican Rep. Stephanie Bice said, according to Politico.

The new plan will be a federal funding stopgap plan that includes disaster aid, pushing off the debt limit fight for two years, and a one-year farm bill extension, Politico reported, citing Republicans familiar with the discussions.
