Bodycam footage shows New Jersey Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver getting in the faces of, verbally berating, and getting physical with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey on Friday.

Democrat members of Congress and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka had reportedly gone to ‘inspect’ the facility when an altercation broke out.

Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba revealed in a post on X that Baraka was taken into custody for allegedly trespassing at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center and ignoring “multiple warnings” from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the property.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement:

“Members of Congress storming into a detention center goes beyond a bizarre political stunt and puts the safety of our law enforcement agents and detainees at risk,” McLaughlin said. “Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility. This is an evolving situation.”

McIver later wrote in an X post that ICE agents “shoved” her and “manhandled” New Jersey Democrat Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman.

Homeland Security footage posted to X on Saturday appears to show McIver pushing and elbowing officials as they stood defending the gate at the Newark facility.

DHS said the detainees at the facility include “murderers, terrorists, child rapists, and MS-13 gang members.”

Trump Administration officials have indicated that McIver and other members of the New Jersey congressional delegation who were at the facility and allegedly confronted ICE agents could be arrested.

In bodycam footage from Friday’s incident, McIver is heard shouting: “I touch whoever I want motherf*cker!”

Some reports had said that McIver was seen “body slamming” an ICE agent.

McIver told CNN: “Absolutely no. I mean, I honestly do not know how to body slam anyone. There’s no video that supports me body slamming anyone. We, as Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman said we were simply there to do our job. There for an oversight visit. What you watch what you’re watching in the video, and we don’t have all of the body cam, and we hope that all of the body cam is released. It was a very tense situation. It unfortunately did not have to be like that. They created that confrontation. They created that chaos and then ultimately went to arrest the mayor of the largest city of New Jersey, who is my mayor and my constituent. And it was very difficult to watch that happen. But absolutely, I did not body slam anyone.”

In February, ICE announced it was expanding detention capacity at the Delaney Hall facility.

“This detention center is the first to open under the new administration,” said acting ICE Director Caleb Vitello in February. “The location near an international airport streamlines logistics, and helps facilitate the timely processing of individuals in our custody as we pursue President Trump’s mandate to arrest, detain and remove illegal aliens from our communities.”

Also in February, McIver was among a group of leftist Congress members who gathered outside the Treasury Department building and called Elon Musk a “Nazi”. The protest unfolded amid the Trump Administration’s push to wind down USAID and roll it into the State Department under Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s oversight.

McIver shouted during the protest: “Shut down the city! We are at war!”
