There is not much support in America for males competing in female sports or illegal Chinese marijuana farms.
Yet those unpopular undertakings seem to be thriving in Maine.

Why?
Democrat Gov. Janet Mills is a key reason, reports say.
According to a report by The Daily Wire on Monday, Mills and her family “are getting rich” off the governor’s support of transgender issues.
Meanwhile, the governor’s brother has been tied to Chinese Communist Party-linked networks which are running some 150 illegal marijuana farms in the state, reports say.
Maine had been set to lose federal funding for its Department of Education and school meal program over Mills’s refusal to abide by President Donald Trump’s order which bans males from competing in female sports.
Mills continues to insist that state law allows males to compete in female sports. The governor also continues to back so-called “gender affirming” treatments and surgeries for minors.
A federal judge ordered the Trump Administration to unfreeze funds last month after finding that Maine was likely to succeed in its legal challenge.
“Mills’s continued support for these policies seems baffling, given how unpopular they are in Maine,” The Daily Wire’s report said. “But the network of transgender groups surrounding Mills and her family — and paying them handsomely — could shed some light on why Maine’s leadership seems unwilling to budge.”
MaineHealth — where Mills’s sister, Dora Anne Mills, is chief health improvement officer — was a top donor to the governor’s 2022 campaign.
The healthcare system offers damaging and irreversible “treatments” for minors, such as puberty blockers, “gender affirming hormone therapy,” and “menstrual suppression.”
“Such procedures are lucrative for MaineHealth, and, of course, backed by Gov. Mills,” the report said.
In 2023, Mills signed a bill into law that allows minors in Maine to access hormone therapies without their parents’ consent. At MaineHealth, there is a “school-based health center” that permits minors to speak to nurses and doctors about their health concerns without parental consent.
In 2024, Mills signed another bill that shields providers of so-called transgender care for minors from laws in other states that restrict such procedures.
Editor-in-chief of The Maine Wire, Steven Robinson, told The Daily Wire:
“MaineHealth, nominally a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has seen its revenue grow from $1.54 billion in 2018, the year before Mills took office, to $3.69 billion as of 2023.
“The governor’s sister, Dora Mills, joined MaineHealth as the ‘Chief Health Improvement Officer’ in late 2018, around the same time her sister was measuring the drapes at the Blaine House, and the confluence of jobs for the Mills sisters has coincided with remarkable growth in MaineHealth’s revenue. All a coincidence, I’m sure.”
The transgender lobby in Maine spent millions of dollars during Mills’s 2022 election campaign.
“Pro-transgender organizations spent almost $2.5 million on political activities during Maine’s 2022 general election, when Mills was reelected,” a Washington Examiner review found.
The Examiner’s report notes that these pro-trans organizations “are among the largest employers in Maine, put aside millions of dollars for political spending every election cycle, and maintain robust lobbying operations.”
Meanwhile, The Daily Caller on May 1 reported on how “a group of men charged with running an illegal marijuana farm in rural Maine have extensive ties to a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) organ responsible for intelligence gathering and foreign influence operations.”
The report noted that two of the men, who pleaded not guilty, are leaders of the Sijiu Association of New York, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit, which works closely with the New York Chinese Consulate and United Front Work Department (UFWD) — one of Beijing’s main influence and intelligence arms. Chinese government records reveal several Sijiu Association officials belong to UFWD branches, and state-run media reports show the nonprofit has also agreed to fund UFWD projects.
“We’ve identified and visited more than 150 illegal Chinese marijuana growing operations throughout the state of Maine,” Robinson, editor-in-chief of the Maine Wire, told The Daily Caller. “The neighbors are terrified, and legitimate marijuana businesses are collapsing due to the illegal competition.”
The Sijiu Association and its leaders have extensive ties to the Chinese government and the United Front Work Department (UFWD), according to Chinese government and state media reports.
The Maine Wire reported on March 26 that a Chinese national living in Guangdong Province became the proud owner of a “fixer upper” in Penobscot County, Maine in February thanks, in part, to title transfer services provided by Paul H. Mills, the eldest brother of Gov. Mills.
Xiling Ou, 44, of Malden, Massachusetts, was the original owner of the ramshackle house and its three-bay garage, along with nine-acres of land.
But 13 days after the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security agents raided an illegal marijuana grow just five miles away, she gifted the property to her mother in Foshan City.
The public records list Paul Mills as the “preparer” of the transfer tax declaration forms and Xiaoyu Lu as the recipient of the gift.
“Title transfer preparers, like Paul Mills, are not required to do any due diligence on the recipient of the gift transfer — or even prove that the recipient is an actual living person. Nothing in Maine or U.S. law prevents property owners from ‘gifting’ land to individuals supposedly living in China,” The Maine Wire reported.
“As a resident of China, Lu would be far beyond the reach of Maine and U.S. law enforcement should they ever need to contact her in relation to the marijuana operation occurring on her new Penobscot County compound.”
