Joe Biden canceled student loans for 150,000 borrowers on Monday one week before Trump’s inauguration.

“Today, my Administration is approving student loan relief for more than 150,000 borrowers – bringing the total number of Americans who have had their student debt cancelled by my Administration to over 5 million. These 150,000 borrowers include: almost 85,000 borrowers who attended schools that cheated and defrauded their students, 61,000 borrowers with total and permanent disabilities, and 6,100 public service workers,” Biden said in a statement on Monday.

Rick Caruso, Who Saved Palisades Village Mall, Donates $5 Million to Firefighters

Billionaire developer Rick Caruso, who saved the Palisades Village mall when everything else in the center of Pacific Palisades burned down in the Palisades Fire, is donating $5 million to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

Caruso, who ran for mayor of Los Angeles in 2022 but lost narrowly to incumbent Karen Bass, was able to save the mall using a private firefighting company, with its own mobile water tankers and crews. The city could not save the town, thanks to a lack of personnel, a lack of water in fire hydrants, and what is widely perceived as mismanagement. Bass also cut tens of millions of dollars from the fire department, and was overseas when the Palisades Fire broke out.

Wildfire-ravaged California should not receive a blank check from the federal government for emergency aid, House Speaker Mike Johnson declared Monday.

TikTok Says Bloomberg Report About Possible Sale to Elon Musk is ‘Pure Fiction’

Congress passed the ban earlier this year in response to widespread opposition to Israel spreading like wildfire on the app. It was signed into law by Joe Biden in April.

The Supreme Court is now considering the case, but according to reports, justices “sound likely” to uphold the ban.

The TikTok ban in the United States is set to come into effect on January 19, 2025, unless TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, divests from the platform or the Supreme Court intervenes with a different ruling. This date could be extended by up to 90 days if ByteDance shows significant progress toward divestiture.

The report claimed that Chinese officials are considering allowing a deal where Musk’s X would absorb TikTok’s US operations.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has repeatedly said it is not open to a forced sale and shot down the claims.

“We can’t be expected to comment on pure fiction,” a TikTok spokesperson told BBC News in response to the Musk report.

Trump vowed to “save” the app during his presidential campaign.

The president-elect met with TikTok CEO Shou Chew at Mar-a-Lago earlier this month to discuss the matter.

“You know, I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok because I won youth by 34 points and there are those that say that TikTok has something to do with it,” Trump said during a press conference earlier this month.

TikTok has over 170 million users in the United States alone.
