Kohl’s to close 27 stores by April as struggling retailer looks to improve profits, sales

  •  Kohl’s said Friday it was closing 27 underperforming stores in 15 states by April – a fraction of its 1,150 store base – as the struggling department store aims to boost profitability and improve sagging sales.

    Senate Banking Committee Member Elizabeth Warren Does Not Understand How Social Security Works  

  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) continues to display her ignorance.  In a failed effort to criticize Elon Musk, Warren reveals she apparently does not understand how Social Security works.
  • Warren wrote on X, “When Elon Musk, the richest man on earth, is set to pay the same amount in taxes for Social Security as your neighborhood dentist, we’ve got a problem.”

  • Newsweek on Friday uncovered explosive evidence that just months before devastating wildfires, which have so far killed at least ten people and destroyed countless homes, Newsom approved at least $101 million worth of cuts from seven “wildfire and forest resilience” programs.
  • The reductions, which were part of last year’s state budget and signed by Newsom in June, included a $5 million decrease for CalFire on fuel reduction teams. These included revenue used to fund vegetation management work by the California National Guard.

  • Gavin Newsom set up a website to counter so-called misinformation. For one, he said he doubled the firefighting budget. Over five years, he did up it to $3 billion. However, four months ago, he cut more than $125 million from seven key firefighting programs.
  • He also upped the budget by $2.6 billion a year for illegal alien healthcare starting January 1. This will continue to accelerate as more come illegally for free healthcare. Google AI says it will cost $4 billion annually [to start]. The priority isn’t firefighting. It’s healthcare for people breaking into the country.

  • Newsom said it’s new. It’s not. It’s a page on his campaign site He suggested it was a state site. It’s not. He linked to a fire department fundraiser that is currently under investigation for…wait for it..fraud.
  • The site where he “straightens out” mis- and disinformation is not a new state site; it’s Newsom’s old campaign site. The link to donate takes you to Act Blue, the corrupt mega-donor collection agency. It’s a Democrat fundraising platform that takes almost 4% of all donations. They are currently under investigation for fraud.
  • He keeps saying he doesn’t want to politicize the catastrophe and then fundraises off it from his campaign site, where he lies or omits the truth.

    Joe Biden Extends Protected Status to Hundreds of Thousands of El Salvadorans to Prevent Deportation Before Trump Takes Office 

  • Joe Biden on Friday extended “Temporary Extended Status” to hundreds of thousands of El Salvadorans before Trump takes office.
  • The TPS will allow 232,000 El Salvadorans to remain in the United States for 18 months from March 10, 2025 to September 9, 2026.
  • The Biden DHS extended the relief to the El Salvadorans due to “geological and weather events, including significant storms.”

  • , for spearheading this. Ending government-backed censorship is one aspect, but ending ALL viewpoint discrimination on tech platforms is crucial. These platforms are essentially modern monopolies that are vital to our way of life. How would you keep up with family members across the country if not for Meta’s apps? How would you efficiently consume content if not for YouTube’s search? How would a local business owner thrive if they aren’t allowed to advertise on Google, Facebook, etc, because of who they voted for? We don’t NEED these platforms to survive. Still, one could also argue that we don’t need to regulate airlines as common carriers because someone could always walk to the other side of the country instead of catching a flight, but common sense says planes are a public necessity. We regulate internet ISPs as common carriers not because people would die without them but because our modern way of life would cease to exist without access to the internet. Look how much damage has been done to society without the free exchange of ideas. We are fighting culture wars that would’ve never escalated to being wars if half the country wasn’t silenced from giving their opinions. This is like the Civil Rights issue of our lifetime, except it’s not discrimination on race but viewpoint. It all has to stop.

  •   large numbers of tanks directly onto Taiwanese roads. Anyone wondering what an invasion of Taiwan might look like now has a fresh visual clue. Defence analysts watching Chinese shipyards have noticed an increase in a particular type of vessel.
  • A number of special and unusual barges, at least 3 but likely 5 or more, have been observed in Guangzhou Shipyard in southern China. These have unusually long road bridges extending from their bows. This configuration makes them particularly relevant to any future landing of PRC (People’s Republic of China) forces on Taiwanese islands.
  • Naval News has seen multiple sources confirming their construction, and has shared information with naval experts to validate our preliminary analysis. The consensus is that these are most likely for amphibious landings. Unusual Barges Similar To D-Day Mulberry Harbours Each barge has a very long road span which is extended out from the front. At over 120 meters (393 ft) this can be used to reach a coastal road or hard surface beyond a beach.
  • At the aft end is an open platform which allows other ships to dock and unload. Some of the barges have ‘jack up’ pillars which can be lowered to provide a stable platform even in poor weather. In operation the barge would act as a pier to allow the unloading of trucks and tanks from cargo ships.
  • The Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) on Longxue Island has been a key part in China’s naval expansion. It is particularly associated with construction of unusual vessels including a very large uncrewed surface vessel and a light aircraft carrier. The barges are reminiscent of the Mulberry Harbours built for the allied invasion of Normandy during World War Two.
  • Like those, these have been built extremely quickly and to novel designs. Although there appears to have been a smaller prototype as early as 2022, the batch of these barges have appeared only recently.
  • A Possible Indication Of Readiness To Invade? The construction of specialist barges like this is one of the indicators defense analysts watching to provide early warning of a potential invasion. It is possible that these ships can be explained away as having a civilian role. But the construction of so many, much larger than similar civilian vessels seen before, makes this implausible. There are several distinct designs of these barges which also points away from a commercial order.
  • These vessels are only suited to moving large amounts of heavy equipment ashore in a short period of time. They appear greatly over-spec for civilians uses. Dr Emma Salisbury, Sea Power Research Fellow at the Council on Geostrategy, told Naval News that “Any invasion of Taiwan from the mainland would require a large number of ships to transport personnel and equipment across the Strait quickly, particularly land assets like armoured vehicles”. These mobile piers appear particularly suited to an invasion.
  • Dr Salisbury continues “As preparation for an invasion, or at least to give China the option as leverage, I would expect to see a build-up of construction of ships that could accomplish this transportation”.
  • Damien Symon, a respected defence analyst who reviewed material shared, noted their suitability for docking with China’s large fleet of civilian ferries. China’s roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ferries are built to carry military vehicles including heavy main battle tanks. They are exercised in this role regularly.
  • Dr Salisbury agreed: “China is constructing a huge fleet of dual-use ships – commercial vessels that could be easily requisitioned for military use when needed. These include in particular roll-on/roll-off ships that would be perfect for transporting military vehicles – and have indeed been built with military specs in mind.” What This Means For Taiwan The traditional view is that there are only a small number of beaches on the main island of Taiwan which are suitable for amphibious landings. And these could be heavily defended.
  • The PRC could seize fishing villages or a port for larger scale landings. But the view has been that any attempt to take the islands by force would mean landing in predictable places. These new barges change that. The extreme reach of the Bailey Bridges means that the PRC could land at sites previously considered unsuitable.
  • They can land across rocky, or soft, beaches, delivering the tanks directly to firmer ground or a coastal road. This allows China to pick new landing sites and complicate attempts to organize defences. Instead of relying on Taiwanese ports, China can now sail its own mobile port across the straits.

    FBI warns drone pilots to stay away from M&T Bank Stadium ahead of Ravens vs. Steelers AFC Wild Card matchup

  •  As the Ravens flock gets geared up for tomorrow’s big playoff game against the Steelers, the FBI will be monitoring the skies and is sending a warning to drone pilots about the restricted airspace above M&T Bank Stadium.
  • “Last year during the AFC championship game during the Chiefs and the Ravens home game on January 28th of last year, we had several drone incursions into the TFR, temporary flight restrictions,” David Rodski, Special Agent with the FBI Baltimore division, said.
  • A Pennsylvania man was ultimately charged for illegally flying the drone over the stadium and was forced to pay hefty fines. On the eve of this year’s playoff game, the FBI is warning pilots to consider the risk to fans and players.
  • “The dangers of flying a drone over a stadium – for starters – you have 70 thousand people, if that drone falls from the sky, you can injure somebody, you can actually kill somebody with a drone,” Rodski warned.
