A student loan forgiveness update will be rolled out in the next week by the Biden administration, coming less than 100 days before the presidential election.
Emails will be sent to millions notifying them they could qualify for debt relief under the enhanced program, along with an opportunity to opt out if they want.
An Education Department announcement made clear what is on offer, with U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona declaring:
Starting tomorrow, the U.S. Department of Education (Department) will begin emailing all borrowers with at least one outstanding federally held student loan to provide updates on potential student debt relief.
Kamala Harris’s attempts to sell Americans on the idea that the U.S. economy is doing well may have become a bit harder.
U.S. businesses added a mere 122,000 jobs in July, according to payroll giant ADP, signaling a cooling labor market and fewer hires. This modest increase is the smallest in six months and falls short of the 150,000 jobs predicted by economists.
While Harris has recently said manufacturing in the U.S. is booming, the ADP report tells a different story. Manufacturing jobs fell in July, ADP said.
Construction added 39,000 and trade, transportation, and utilities added 61,000, leading the gaining sectors. Leisure and hospitality, a major source of job growth last year, added a modest 24,000. Health and education added 22,000.
Professional and business services employment declined by 47,000, a possible signal of a souring economy. Information technology shed 18,000, which is a lot of job losses for a smaller segment of the economy.
The slowing job market has also taken a toll on wage growth. The year-over-year pay increase for workers who stayed in the same job dipped to a three-year low of 4.8 percent in July.
“With wage growth slowing down, the labor market is aligning with the Federal Reserve’s efforts to curb inflation,” said ADP’s chief economist, Nela Richardson. “If inflation goes back up, it won’t be because of labor.”

Seventy percent of adults say the economy under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris is getting worse, according to polling from Gallup.
At the beginning of 2024, in February, only 61 percent said the economy was getting worse, while 32 percent said the economy was getting better. Since then, those numbers have all slid in the wrong direction.

The digital euro has been in its investigation phase since October 2021, during which ECB officials and bankers hypothesized about its possible design and purpose.
As of November 2023, the digital euro has entered the preparation phase, with possible legislative adoption expected by the last financial quarter of 2024.

The plan proposes establishing a “Bitcoin Purchase Program” of up to 200,000 BTC a year over a five-year period.
U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis’s plan for a new Strategic Bitcoin Reserve would finance purchases of the cryptocurrency partly by revaluing gold certificates held by the Federal Reserve System, according to a draft of the legislation obtained by CoinDesk.
According to the draft bill, under the working short title of “Bitcoin Act of 2024,” the Treasury secretary would “establish a decentralized network of secure Bitcoin storage facilities distributed across the U.S.,” selecting the locations for the vaults “based on a comprehensive risk assessment, prioritizing geographic diversity, security and accessibility.”
The Treasury secretary would establish a “Bitcoin Purchase Program” of up to 200,000 BTC a year over a five-year period, for a total of 1 million, according to the draft. The bitcoin would be held for at least 20 years and could only be disposed of for the purpose of paying off federal debt. After that, no more than 10% of the assets could be sold during any two-year period.
The bitcoin purchases would be financed through a few methods, describe in the draft bill as “offsetting the cost of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.”
The plan calls for the setting aside of $6 billion from any net earnings remitted by Federal Reserve to the Treasury from fiscal years 2025 through 2029, and it would reduce the discretionary surplus funds of Federal Reserve banks to $2.4 billion from $6.825 billion, the level that’s currently stipulated in the Federal Reserve Act.
Revaluing the Fed’s gold
There’s also the revaluation of Federal Reserve banks’ gold certificates to reflect their fair market value.
Under the plan, within six months of enactment of the legislation, Federal Reserve banks would tender all of their oustanding gold certificates to the Treasury secretary. Within 90 days after that, the Treasury secretary would issue “new gold certificates to the Federal Reserve banks that reflect the fair market value price of the gold.”
The Federal Reserve banks would then “remit the difference in cash value between the old and new certificates” to the Treasury secretary.
Hunter Biden’s legal team “invented” reasons why special counsel David Weiss’ appointment to the case was allegedly illegal, prosecutors argued in a new filing, as they asked a judge to uphold the first son’s tax evasion case.
The latest bid by President Biden’s son to toss the felony charges against him is his “fourth attempt at halting the prosecution of this case based on invented deficiencies in the appointment and funding of Special Counsel Weiss,” Weiss’ office argued in a Monday filing in California federal court.
Earlier this month, Hunter’s legal team tried yet again to get the case accusing him of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes to the IRS dismissed — calling Weiss’ appointment and the funding to prosecute the Biden scion unconstitutional.
“However, changing one word does not resolve the issues, as these statements continue to be misleading by suggesting that United States Attorney Weiss failed to take action against the defendant until after he became special counsel,” the filing claims. “That is patently incorrect.” In fact, Weiss first brought charges against Hunter, 54, when he was the Delaware US attorney in a case that the first son had planned to plead guilty to — until the prosecution agreement notoriously blew up in court.

A counter sniper sent an email Monday night to the entire Uniformed Division (not agents) saying he will not stop speaking out until high-level supervisors are either fired or removed from their current positions.

Microsoft now admits that its services were taken out by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack which was ‘amplified’ by an error in the company’s cyber defences.
Experts say the true culprits may never be identified but that they were likely encouraged to strike by Microsoft’s recent service troubles.
In the 2020 Presidential Election, several states took an excessive amount of time to process and tabulate mail-in ballots after universal and/or no-excuse mail-in balloting was permitted in most states due to COVID fears. According to an article by the Washington Post, 27 states allowed early processing of mail-in ballots in 2020. That number has since ballooned to 43 states in total.

Since the 2020 Covid election, the USPS has effectively become the largest “precinct” in our elections with little citizen observation. But recent incidents, reports from the USPS Office of the Inspector General, and independent investigations have revealed that the USPS may not be prepared to handle the volume of vote-by-mail ballots this November.
As recently reported in The Federalist, the USPS Election Mail system apparently created a major problem in the June primary election in Utah. According to local election officials, hundreds of ballots that were purportedly mailed before the vote-by-mail cut-off were not processed by USPS in time to meet the “postmark” deadline, making those ballots ineligible to be counted in the election.
