    VW Among Several European Automakers To Halt Vehicle Shipments, Raise Prices, In Response To Tariffs

  • European automakers are hiking prices and shifting production to the U.S. in response to Trump’s auto tariffs. Volkswagen will add import fees to vehicle prices, while Volvo and Mercedes-Benz are considering expanding U.S. manufacturing to avoid the 25% duties, according to Bloomberg.
  • Mercedes may move production of a model to Alabama to offset tariffs and is weighing pulling its cheaper cars from the U.S. after a 58% sales jump in its top-selling import, the GLC SUV. Germany’s economy minister backed EU talks with the U.S. but warned of a “clear and decisive response” if no deal is reached, calling the tariffs a risk to global stability.

  • EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyden has three big concerns with the new trade/tariff reset.  I strongly suggest everyone to read the EU concerns slowly to fully absorb decades of hypocrisy now surfacing:
  • #1 The EU will not be able to compete for U.S. market share with 20% general tariffs and 25% auto tariffs.
  • #2 The EU must deploy countermeasures against the risk of losing industrial capacity and manufacturing to the United States.
  • And #3 The EU must defend itself against China dumping cheap products into the EU now rejected by the USA.
  • As noted by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, all of the global trade partners would do themselves a favor if they did not react emotionally with increased countervailing duties.
  • The currently outlined U.S. reciprocal tariffs represent a ceiling amount levied.  The goal is to lower the tariffs to zero by eliminating all trade barriers.  If the EU raises their baseline tariffs, the only thing that happens is the U.S. side increases at the same proportion.  The higher von der Leyen goes in her tariffs, the higher the U.S. countervailing duty applies.

    Canadian PM Mark Carney Says Will Match Trump Auto Tariffs at 25%

  • Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spins a tale of Automaker Stellantis temporarily shutting down auto plants in Canada and Mexico as an outcome of President Trump’s tariffs.  Unfortunately, the gaslighting by Carney might work on less intellectual SnowMexicans, but it fails here.
  • Stellantis, an EU centered auto company who sell Dodge, Ram (made in Mexico) and Dodge, Durango (made in Canada), have been in a deepening crisis for over a year as a result of poor brand management, poor development and weak North American sales.  In short, their cars and trucks are not selling, that’s why the CEO quit in December, and they fired and replaced the North American leadership team.  It has nothing to do with Trump’s auto tariffs against Mexico and Canada.

  • The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has dropped a bombshell with its 2025 National Trade Estimate Report on Foreign Trade Barriers, shining a glaring spotlight on the dirty tricks foreign nations are using to kneecap American exporters.
  • The NTE Report, released just days ago, confirms what patriots have been shouting from the rooftops: our so-called trading partners are rigging the game.
  • From Algeria to Vietnam, here are the 10 unfair trade practices the USTR is calling out:

    • 1/10: China’s non-tariff measures and high tariffs on U.S. agricultural products—like soybeans, pork, wheat, and corn—have greatly restricted market access for American farmers. Removing these barriers would generate an estimated $6 billion in additional annual exports of these products.

    2/10: The U.S. shrimp industry noted the negative impacts of subsidized low-cost, farm-raised shrimp imports from Brazil, China, Ecuador, India, Thailand, and Vietnam. According to NOAA Fisheries, the total value of U.S. shrimp fishermen’s catch fell from $522 million in 2021 to $268 million in 2023—an almost 50% decrease.

    3/10: South Africa heavily restricts U.S. poultry exports through high tariffs, anti-dumping duties, and unjustified animal health restrictions. These barriers led to a 78% decline in exports, from $89 million in 2019 to $19 million in 2024.

    4/10: Egypt’s average applied tariff on agricultural goods is 65.1%, 13 times higher than the U.S., and among the highest globally.   • The de minimis loophole comes from back in the 1930s. The idea back then was, say you went on a vacation to Paris, you shouldn’t have to file customs paperwork or pay taxes if you decided to ship some little Eiffel Tower statues to your friends back home.
  • Congress in 2015 then raised the de minimis threshold from $200 to $800. However, the e-commerce world exploded, and Chinese companies began using the de minimis loophole to ship cheap goods (ex. Temu and Shein) into the USA direct to consumers without paying any customs duty.
  • Yesterday as part of the global trade reset and tariff structure, President Trump revoked authorization for Chinese goods to transfer to the USA using the de minimis rule. The de minimis exemption has been cancelled for all products coming out of China. The rule change only targets China and Chinese shippers. No one else.The minimum duty is $25, and the tariff rate is 30% for all products mailed from China into the USA that previously qualified under the de minimis rule.
  • Beyond tariffs or sector specific countervailing duties, the removal of China to use the $800 de minimis exemption will destroy their economy.  There is no way for manufacturers in China, marketed into the USA, to be able to survive if they are forced to collect and organize the requirements for U.S. custom and import duties.     Surprise: Judge Who Blocked Ratcliffe and Gabbard From Firing DEI Employees Has a Colorful History
  •  In late 2021, Durham charged Igor Danchenko, the primary source for Christopher Steele’s infamous anti-Trump dossier, with multiple counts of making false statements to the FBI. One of the charges involved the fabrication of a phone call that alleged a conspiracy between now-President Donald Trump and Russia to influence the 2016 election. Keep that in mind as we walk through another seemingly unrelated story that isn’t as disconnected as it would seem.
  • On Monday, Judge Anthony Trenga blocked a series of firings ordered by CIA Director John Ratcliffe and DNI Tulsi Gabbard. The federal employees in question were working in various diversity, equity, and inclusion roles, putting their continued employment at odds with Trump’s order to shutter government DEI departments.

    • A federal judge on Monday blocked the Trump administration from firing 19 staffers at the CIA and Office of the Director of National Intelligence who’d worked on initiatives for diversity, equity and inclusion programs, which President Donald Trump had ordered terminated.

     

    Trenga shifted course Monday, deciding the intelligence staffers deserved the opportunity to appeal their firings and to be considered for other jobs.

  • In this case, the judge originally sided with the administration before changing course, deciding that those fired “deserved the opportunity to appeal their firings and to be considered for other jobs.” Ask yourself, if you were let go tomorrow from your job, would you get a chance to “appeal your firing” or “be considered for other jobs?” For almost everyone reading this, the answer will be a resounding no. The sense of entitlement surrounding federal government employees is simply off-putting.
  • What does that have to do with Durham’s prosecution of Danchenko? Well, in the end, a certain FISA judge stepped in to essentially nuke the special counsel’s case, ending the only real chance of anyone being held to account for the Russian collusion hoax. One of the charges was thrown out while key evidence was ruled inadmissible.

    • The judge who this week blocked efforts by the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to fire employees involved with divisive DEI programs previously helped kneecap one of special counsel John Durham’s cases tied to the Russia collusion hoax…

    …Trenga, the judge who also oversaw Durham’s case against the Russian-born Igor Danchenko, kneecapped the special counsel ahead of the October 2022 trial, including ruling that Durham could not use details from the FBI’s prior counterintelligence investigation into Danchenko. He was accused of being the  main source for British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s debunked dossier. Trenga limited a host of other evidence Durham had sought to show the jury as well.

    During the trial, Trenga dealt Durham’s case another blow as he dismissed one of the false-statement charges brought against Danchenko, who was acquitted of all charges in October 2022. The Eastern District of Virginia is known for handling many national security cases, and Trenga has also been a member of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court since May 2020, and has been the presiding judge on the secretive court since May 2023.

    Trump fires national security officials after far-right activist Laura Loomer urged him to in meeting – report

  • Loomer   has   been successful in pushing the White House to fire national security staffers for disloyalty.
  • The White House reportedly fired at least three NSC staffers involved in the Signal leak debacle. Senior director of intelligence Brian Walsh, senior director for legislative affairs Thomas Boodry and a senior director overseeing tech and national security, David Feith, have all been let go post-meeting, CNN reports.
