US Tariffs May Drive China’s Economy Into a Depression, Experts Say

Li, a garment exporter in southern China, said the United States’ steep tariffs have dealt a devastating blow to his business.

The business owner from Guangzhou Province said his orders from the United States “evaporated” as the levies escalated.

Li is not alone. Most Chinese exporters are in the same boat. On social media platforms in China, they discuss their dilemma. A few said they were immune from the impact of U.S. tariffs owing to their irreplaceable products.

These exporters reported that U.S. orders formed the majority of their business—and were the most lucrative. Without the American market, no other region, including Europe, can fill the void.

Beijing will have trouble backing down from its standoff with the United States, he said, because Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping “has clearly created his whole persona around being the leader who can stand up to America.”

Given the irreplaceable nature of the U.S. consumer market in China’s export-driven economy, Martin said, Beijing will “have to make a deal at some point, or this recession does turn into a depression.”

The Chinese regime can probably keep exporters afloat for about six months to a year if it doesn’t resolve the trade war with the United States, Lee projected.

Mercedes Benz will shift production of their GLC (compact SUV) to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, away from Bremen, Germany.

Previously, the German automaker had shifted manufacturing of large SUV lines to the USA to avoid the pre-existing 25% ‘chicken tax.’ However, the smaller and less expensive crossover types were still made in Germany and shipped to the USA. As the shipping vessels returned to Germany, they would take some of the SUV inventory back with them. It was the most cost-effective solution, given the nature of the tariff situation.

Now, with larger import tariffs against all vehicles, Mercedes has shifted their business model to essentially an outcome where all USA marketed/sold vehicles will be manufactured in the USA, and all EU marketed/sold vehicles will be manufactured in Germany.

Ed Martin is currently the Acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia. President Trump recently announced he nominated Ed for a permanent position as one of the country’s top cops.

Democrats and January 6 prosecutors are now targeting Ed Martin because they fear him and what he may expose.

In February, Ed Martin launched an investigation into threats against DOGE workers and revealed Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer as the target.

Ed Martin also launched an inquiry into former US Attorney Matthew Graves’ prosecutions of more than 1,500 January 6 protestors. He is specifically probing Graves’ abuse of the 1512(c)(2) obstruction charge.

In addition to probing Graves’ abuse of the 1512(c)(2), it was reported that Ed Martin humiliated numerous Biden DOJ prosecutors by transferring them to pursue misdemeanor offenses in the DC Superior Court.

A Bureau of Prisons spokesman said in a statement that the agency “will comply with all Presidential Orders.” However, expect the lawsuits to start coming in as they do whenever Trump takes an action. What they’ll sue over this time is anybody’s guess—perhaps the unconstitutionality of holding people to account or some such silliness.

were notorious and feared, which served as a deterrent to strike fear into criminals, and hopefully prevent them from engaging in organized crime in the first place. In addition, the island prison was essential to isolate influential gangsters from mainland prisons, where they could more easily bribe guards and carry out criminal activity from behind bars. Trump rebuilding Alcatraz is not about operating a cost-efficient supermax prison. It’s about creating an iconic deterrent to make let criminals know that law and order is back, and that those committing heinous crimes on our soil… a terrible fate awaits you. Alcatraz’s value is not just in harboring high-profile criminals, but in preventing crimes before they happen, by making an example of the worst of the worst.

According to Grok, the FBI/DHS do not assist in building federal prisons. They are built by the Bureau of Prisons, which is overseen by the DOJ.

Sounds like the inmates being held at Alcatraz will likely be those considered domestic threats to NATSEC, therefore of interest to the FBI/DHS, and thus these agencies need to have input on the security and design of the facility. That’s my best guess as of now. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it sounds like Trump is creating his own supermax prison, to hold the highest profile domestic prisoners, with some sort of implication to NATSEC. And for those asking “why not GITMO”, that’s because GITMO is for hostile enemy combatants and war criminals prosecuted via military courts, and kept off US soil (Cuba) for legal reasons. Alcatraz would house domestic criminals on US soil, prosecuted by the US civilian court system.
