WEF brags that over $100 billion was taken via carbon taxes last year

The WEF has announced that $104 billion was syphoned out of the pockets of taxpayers globally via carbon taxes last year to pay for environmental schemes.

In an article, the WEF brags that this is a new record and that carbon taxes and emissions trading systems now account for 24% of the world’s emissions, up from 7% in 2013.

However, according to the report, it’s not enough. Less than 1% of global emissions are being subject to a direct carbon price at the target rates, meaning there’s still plenty of room for more taxes.

No evidence that carbon taxes work

Of course, there’s no evidence carbon taxes change the weather or affect emissions. If there was, Canada, a world-renowned champion of it, would be able to provide evidence of this.

In fact, there’s probably evidence to the contrary, i.e., that not only has the carbon tax not changed the weather, it’s made life significantly worse for Canadians for no good reason—as is likely the case everywhere else there’s a carbon tax

Another Failed Dem Policy: NY Gov. Hochul Forced to Place ‘Indefinite Pause’ on New York City ‘Congestion Pricing’

“The public transit authority hasn’t determined how much to charge drivers, but has considered fares ranging from $9 to $23 for passenger vehicles and between $12 and $82 for trucks. The scenarios contemplate different combinations of potential discounts, credits, and exemptions,” Politico reported.

New York’s Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul’s spox John Lindsay cheered the approval saying at the time, “Governor Hochul is committed to implementing congestion pricing to reduce traffic, improve air quality, and support our public transit system. We’ve worked closely with partners across government and with community members over the last four years to develop a plan that will achieve these goals.”

Politico reports:

“Circumstances have changed and we must respond to the facts on the ground and not the rhetoric of five years ago,” she said.

The decision by Hochul leaves a host of unanswered questions, including how the MTA will make up the expected annual $1 billion in revenue. The money would have gone to a larger $15 billion capital plan for public transportation improvements.

U.S. Warns: Dual Citizens May Be Stuck in Ukraine Under Mobilization Law

The United States government warned that dual citizens of Ukraine and the U.S. who are within the age of conscription may face the possibility of being stuck in the country.

Under martial law instituted in Ukraine, men with dual Ukraine-U.S. citizenship who are between the ages of 18 and 60, “may no longer be able to depart the country,” the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv explained in a statement on Tuesday.

“Ukrainian law does not recognize dual citizenship,” the U.S. embassy added. “U.S.-Ukrainian dual citizens are therefore treated solely as Ukrainian citizens while in Ukraine and are subject to the rights and obligations of Ukrainian citizens.”

Since martial law was instituted in Ukraine, it has been extended several times. Most recently, in May, the Ukrainian Parliament was reported to have extended martial law until August 2024.

Russian Warships Steam For Caribbean As Ukraine Tensions Go Global

CBS News reports that long-range Russian bombers will rendezvous with the ships for combined naval and air maneuvers. Such exercises are not without precedent: Russia conducted similar combined-arms Caribbean maneuvers in 2019, and had a streak of sending ships into the Western Hemisphere at least annually from 2013 to 2020. Following the summer exercises, Russia is expected to engage in a worldwide naval exercise this fall, sources tell CBS.

The Pentagon is tracking a “handful” of ships and support craft that are expected to reach Caribbean waters in the upcoming weeks. US analysts speculate that the flotilla will make port calls in both Cuba and Venezuela. Cuba's likely relishes the opportunity to host the Russian warships: Last year's docking of a US nuclear submarine at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base ruffled feathers in Havana, with the Cuban government calling it a “provocative escalation.”

Russian cyber crooks are holding major hospitals to ransom after a hack attack on an NHS contractor.

Operations and tests had to be cancelled after Monday’s ransomware assault on private firm Synnovis, which runs some NHS pathology services. Ciaran Martin, former chief of the National Cyber Security Centre, said the hack has led to a “severe reduction in capacity” and is “very, very serious”.

He said it was the work of a group of Russian cyber criminals called Qilin, adding: “These criminal groups operate freely from within Russia. “They’ve got websites on the so-called dark web, and this particular group has about a two-year history of attacking various organisations across the world.

“They’ve done automotive companies, they’ve attacked the Big Issue here in the UK, they’ve attacked Australian courts. They’re looking for money.”

WHO confirms 1st fatal human case of H5N2 bird flu

The World Health Organization said on Wednesday that a man in Mexico has died from a subtype of avian influenza, in the first laboratory-confirmed human fatality from the strain.

WHO said the 59-year-old had died on April 24 after developing a fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nausea and general discomfort.

The victim had no history of exposure to poultry or other animals, WHO said. Cases of A(H5N2) subtype of avian influenza have been reported in poultry in Mexico.

UPDATE: Bend Police Department Clarifies Incident Involving Public Indecency in Front of Children — Urges Concerned Citizens to Contact Oregon Legislature to Change Flawed State Law

A video clip posted on TikTok and other platforms depicted a police officer claiming that public indecency in front of children is not a crime in Oregon, prompting outrage and confusion.

Reacting immediately, he shielded his child’s eyes from the naked trespasser and immediately dialed 911, expecting swift action against the individual for indecent exposure.

However, the response he received from the attending officer was shocking. In the recorded conversation, the officer can be heard stating that while trespassing is a crime, there are no laws in Oregon against “the actual nudity portion of it.”

Executive Order 13618—Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions

Sec. 5.2. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall: (a) oversee the development, testing, implementation, and sustainment of NS/EP communications, including: communications that support Continuity of Government; Federal, State, local, territorial, and tribal emergency preparedness and response communications; non-military executive branch communications systems; critical infrastructure protection networks; and non-military communications networks, particularly with respect to prioritization and restoration; (b) incorporate, integrate, and ensure interoperability and the necessary combination of hardness, redundancy, mobility, connectivity, interoperability, restorability, and security to obtain, to the maximum extent practicable, the survivability of NS/EP communications defined in section 5.2(

(h) within 60 days of the date of this order, in consultation with the Executive Committee where appropriate, develop and submit to the President, through the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, a detailed plan that describes the Department of Homeland Security's organization and management structure for its NS/EP communications functions, including the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service, Wireless Priority Service, Telecommunications Service Priority program, Next Generation Network Priority program, the Executive Committee JPO, and relevant supporting entities.
