Fact Check: Biden Falsely Claims He Eliminated The Trade Deficit

Claim: Biden said that the U.S. is exporting products instead of importing foreign products, implying the trade deficit had been erased or reduced during his presidency.

“And now instead of importing foreign products and exporting American jobs, we’re exporting American products and creating American jobs – right here in America where they belong!” Biden said during his State of the Union Address.

Verdict: False.

The United States ran a goods and services trade deficit of nearly $779.8 billion last year. While that is down from last year’s record high $951.2 billion, it is higher than the trade deficit under any prior president. The three largest trade deficits ever have occurred in each year of President Biden’s presidency.

The trade deficit in goods has also been higher in each year of Biden’s presidency than it was under previous presidents. While the balance of payments in goods improved last year, the goods deficit is still higher than it was before Biden took office.

Fact Check: Biden Says ‘No U.S. Boots Will Be on the Ground’ for Gaza Port Project

: President Joe Biden claimed that “[n]o U.S. boots will be on the ground” to build a port in Gaza for aid.

VERDICT: MOSTLY FALSE. The project would require thousands of U.S. troops, either on the ground or close to shore.

Biden used his State of the Union address Thursday, as Breitbart News reported, to propose that the U.S. military build a new port in Gaza to facilitate the transfer of aid into the area. The Israeli government has repeatedly pointed out that unlimited amounts of aid already enters Gaza; the problem is distribution, especially as Hamas steals much of the aid. And the White House itself admitted in a briefing that trucking aid in is a more efficient and effective approach.

Moreover, Gaza had a port before the war. The Hamas terror group controlled it, and used it to launch maritime assaults in the October 7 attack against Israel. Israel destroyed the port in November in a clash with Hamas terrorists.

Still, the idea of a port is a visual concept that, like aid dropped from airplanes, presents a striking image of assistance.

But there is no way to build a port, or to secure it in a war zone, without the presence of American personnel in the area.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose “expert” advice to President Trump has resulted in the complete shutdown of the greatest economic engine in world history, has known since 2005 that chloroquine is an effective inhibitor of coronaviruses.

How did he know this? Because of research done by the National Institutes of Health, of which he is the director. In connection with the SARS outbreak – caused by a coronavirus dubbed SARS- CoV – the NIH researched chloroquine and concluded that it was effective at stopping the SARS coronavirus in its tracks. The COVID-19 bug is likewise a coronavirus, labeled SARS-CoV-2. While not exactly the same virus as SARS-CoV-1, it is genetically related to it, and shares 79% of its genome, as the name SARS-CoV-2 implies. They both use the same host cell receptor, which is what viruses use to gain entry to the cell and infect the victim.

The Virology Journal – the official publication of Dr. Fauci’s National Institutes of Health – published what is now a blockbuster article on August 22, 2005, under the heading – get ready for this – “Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.” (Emphasis mine throughout.) Write the researchers, “We report…that chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells. These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage.”

So HCQ functions as both a cure and a vaccine. In other words, it’s a wonder drug for coronavirus. Said Dr. Fauci’s NIH in 2005, “concentrations of 10 μM completely abolished SARS-CoV infection.” Fauci’s researchers add, “chloroquine can effectively reduce the establishment of infection and spread of SARS-CoV.”
