Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert has been one of President Donald Trump’s most vicious critics since even before the first term.
Since Trump’s second term began, Colbert’s supposedly humorous monologues have largely transformed into gripe sessions in which he dutifully preaches to the far-left choir.
Most recently, he took on the White House for its decision not to differentiate Americans based on whom they choose to have sex with.
Rejecting social pressure to issue a special proclamation for LGBT “pride,” Colbert argued, is a sign that the Trump administration lacks “humanity” and isn’t sufficiently “inclusive.”

After wading into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for ordering the renaming of USNS Harvey Milk, Colbert went further with another sneering aside. He said:
This is shortsighted and long-stupidded and unsurprising. Since taking office, the Trump Administration has curtailed protections around LGBTQ rights, banned trans service members from the military, axed hundreds of millions in LGBTQ health funding, and now said they have no plans to issue a Pride Month proclamation this June.
Colbert challenged the administration’s humanity on the matter.
He grieved that no Pride Month proclamation, “means the White House is less inclusive and has less humanity than the Buffalo Bills, who tweeted, ‘Happy Pride. Feeling all the Buffalove!’ Even they know! Even an NFL team knows. Even the Bills know love is love is Buffalove.”
Plenty of other Americans, however, were pleased by the Trump administration’s resistance on the topic:

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the matter during a recent news conference, continuing a first-term tradition, according to The Hill:
Trump declined to issue proclamations recognizing Pride Month throughout his first term, though he briefly acknowledged it on social media in 2019 while touting his administration’s efforts to decriminalize homosexuality worldwide, the first Republican president to do so.
“As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made to our great Nation, let us also stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people who live in dozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals on the basis of their sexual orientation,” Trump wrote on the social platform X, then Twitter, six years ago. “My Administration has launched a global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality and invite all nations to join us in this effort!”
Former President Clinton, a Democrat, issued the first presidential proclamation designating June “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month” in 1999. A declaration issued in 2011 by former President Obama expanded the scope to include bisexual and transgender people.
