Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Addresses Rumors He Plans To Drop Out And Endorse Donald Trump

Rumors circulated that independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. intended to drop out and endorse Donald Trump.

RFK Jr. responded to the rumors and called it “fake news.”

“I’m in it to win it. I lead in popularity and independents are now the largest voting bloc. Momentum is shifting in my favor as I close in on ballot access in all 50 states. I look forward to challenging President Trump and the DNC nominee at the next debate,” he said.

 

According to ABC News, Trump and RFK Jr. spoke in-person in Milwaukee during the Republican National Convention.

“At least one idea floated, according to two people with knowledge of the talks, was for Kennedy, a vaccine skeptic who speaks often about the perils of chronic disease, to oversee the Health and Human Services Department under a possible Trump administration,” ABC News wrote.

The two candidates also spoke on a phone call, which leaked to the public.

RFK Jr. apologized for the leaked footage.

“When President Trump called me I was taping with an in-house videographer. I should have ordered the videographer to stop recording immediately. I am mortified that this was posted. I apologize to the president,” he said.

According to one source, the in-person meeting, which took place the Monday of the convention, never reached a point where Trump and Kennedy had a deal in place for Kennedy to exit the race and endorse the former president in exchange for a role in the administration. Rather, it was an "informal," "free flowing" conversation, the source said.

The two men initially spoke by phone on the evening Trump survived an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, one source told ABC News, adding that they agreed on that phone call to meet in Milwaukee the next week.

"Lots of rumors going around about my meeting this morning with President Trump. Our main topic was national unity, and I hope to meet with Democratic leaders about that as well. No, I am not dropping out of the race," RFK Jr. previously said.

But according to Kennedy, he’s pushing through with his campaign. He did not qualify for the last presidential debate against Trump and President Biden partly due to him not being on enough state ballots.

A second presidential debate is in flux after Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement on Sunday. Trump said Thursday he would not finalize details of another debate until the Democratic National Committee votes in the official nominee.

Polls show that Kennedy has dropped slightly in national five-way matchups since late June, when Trump and Biden had their debate in Atlanta.

He’s now averaging at 6.9%, according to RealClearPolitics.

In the latest New York Times/ Sienna College poll conducted after Biden dropped out of the race, Kennedy is polling at 5%.

Kennedy’s campaign is attempting to get on every state ballot. His campaign website claims his team is either in progress of petitioning or has completed the petitioning progress in all 50 states.
