‘Absolutely Not’ – House Democrat Not Ready To Endorse Kamala Harris

Not every Democrat is currently on board with Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee in the presidential election.

Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) said he’s not ready to endorse Harris for the White House.

“Absolutely not,” Golden said, according to WGME.

“I expect to have to work to earn Mainers’ votes and our candidates for president should expect the same. Kamala Harris has been a candidate for president for less than a week and I look forward to learning more about what kind of leader she would be,” Golden said in a statement.

“My hope is that she leans into her record as an attorney general and prosecutor and affirms her commitment to public safety and the rule of law – from going after the white collar criminals who rip off the working class to securing our border and stopping the flow of deadly fentanyl into our communities,” he continued.

“Our choice in leaders should never be a knee-jerk decision driven solely by party loyalty,” he added.

‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris Condemned In House Resolution, Six Democrats Join Republicans

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), passed in a 220-196 vote.

WGME reports:

The bill is largely viewed as a political vote meant to highlight this key campaign issue and force Democrats to vote on the record.

Republicans insist President Joe Biden and Harris are to blame for the situation at the border.

“No matter what Congressional district you go to, the number one issue facing Americans is Kamala Harris' open border crisis and by every metric, Kamala Harris has failed to secure our borders," Stefanik said. "Make no mistake, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are to blame for this historic crisis."

Democrats are pushing back, pointing to global unrest and failed efforts in Congress to address the issue.

Congresswoman Pramilla Jayapal of Washington says Republicans are wasting their time on the floor with resolutions like this, which she claims will have no actual effect on Harris, instead of using the time for meaningful reform.

Per Axios:

Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) told Axios he will "absolutely not" commit to voting for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in November.

The co-chair of the centrist Blue Dog Coalition is trying to hold onto a congressional seat that former President Trump, the GOP's nominee this year, won handily in 2020.

Golden, who said before President Biden dropped out that he wouldn't commit to voting for the 81-year-old due to concerns about his health, said of Harris: "I at least know that she's capable of finishing the next four-year term."

"That's a positive step in the right direction, I think, from the perspective of the American people. They at least have a clear choice," the Maine Democrat said in an interview Thursday at the Capitol.

But Golden said he is "absolutely not" committing to voting for Harris and is "going to wait and see what she puts forward and what her vision for the future of the country is."
