Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Says United States To Withhold Funding From Bill Gates-Backed Vaccine Initiative

According to multiple reports, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the United States would withhold funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, until the global organization regains “public trust.”

“Kennedy accused Gavi of neglecting vaccine safety, making questionable recommendations around Covid-19 vaccines and silencing dissenting views,” POLITICO stated.

“When vaccine safety issues have come before Gavi, Gavi has treated them not as a patient health problem, but as a public relations problem,” RFK Jr. said, according to The New York Times.

From POLITICO:

“When the science was inconvenient, Gavi ignored the science,” Kennedy alleged.

“I call on Gavi today to re-earn the public trust and to justify the $8 billion that America has provided in funding since 2001,” he said. “And I’ll tell you how to start taking vaccine safety seriously: Consider the best science available, even when the science contradicts established paradigms. Until that happens, the United States won’t contribute more to Gavi.”

In response to the video, Gavi said its “utmost concern is the health and safety of children.”

“Any decision made by Gavi with regards to its vaccine portfolio is made in alignment with recommendations by WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE), a group of independent experts that reviews all available data through a rigorous, transparent, and independent process,” the group said.

Gavi leaders are in Brussels on Wednesday for the organization’s pledging summit, where they are hoping to raise $9 billion for the 2026-2030 period. This will allow another 500 million childhood vaccinations and save at least 8 million lives by 2030, Gavi’s plan said.

The Gates Foundation has been one of Gavi’s biggest financial backers, contributing billions to the vaccine fund.

“As a founding partner of Gavi, the Gates Foundation has brought international attention to the cause of immunisation and has made several commitments to Gavi, totalling US$ 4.1 billion to date. In 2000, the foundation made an initial US$ 750 million commitment to the Vaccine Fund, which was catalytic in bringing other donors to support vaccine delivery and creating Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance,” Gavi writes on its website.

“At the Berlin Pledging Conference 2015, the Gates Foundation announced US$ 1.55 billion for Gavi’s next 2016–2025 strategic period. At the 2020 Global Vaccine Summit, the Gates Foundation announced US$ 1.6 billion for Gavi’s next 2021–2025 strategic period. In addition to this funding, the foundation pledged US$ 150 million in support of the Gavi COVAX AMC to ensure equitable access to vaccines for AMC-eligible economies,” it added.

“Today, we announced a $1.6 billion pledge to support @Gavi. If Gavi isn’t fully funded, too many children could be left without the vaccines they need. Now more than ever, we must stand together to support immunization,” the Gates Foundation said Tuesday.

The New York Times reports:

His speech was the first indication that the Trump administration’s decision to end funding for Gavi may be motivated by mistrust of vaccines, in addition to a desire to reduce foreign aid.

In the video, which Gavi’s leaders said they would play before the end of the summit, Mr. Kennedy accused them of being selective in their use of science to support vaccine choices, and said that the United States would not deliver on a $1.2 billion pledge made by the Biden administration until the organization changed its processes.

“In its zeal to promote universal vaccination, it has neglected the key issue of vaccine safety,” he said.
