Sen. Rand Paul: President Trump’s Education Policy Is Actually ‘Very Mainstream Republican Position’

The U.S. Department of Education has been widely unpopular among conservatives for generations.

Republican lawmakers have repeatedly asserted that decisions about education should be made primarily at the local level while those on the left tend to want federal bureaucrats to have the lion’s share of influence.

President Donald Trump has tapped into the disillusionment on his side of the aisle, pursuing a second-term agenda that includes scaling back, if not eliminating entirely, the DOE.

And for Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who hasn’t been afraid to criticize Trump on hot-button issues in the past, the White House has the right instincts when it comes to education reform.

As the Daily Wire reported:

“I think the bigger question is, if we’re sending all this money to Kentucky and all the other states, why are our scores abysmal?” Paul asked. “Why do two-thirds of the kids not read at proficiency? Why do two-thirds of the kids or more not have math proficiency?”

“It’s been an utter failure,” he continued. “I’d leave it back to the states. It has always been a position, a very mainstream Republican position, to have control of the schools by the states, send the money back to the states, or, better yet, never take it from the states.”

He said that states are much better equipped at knowing how to spend money on the education needs in their states than the federal government.

After President Trump’s cuts to the U.S. Education Department, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says he’d like to see “an NBA or NFL of teachers,” with “the most extraordinary teachers” reaching “the entire country” or “the entire world” virtually.

“What we need to do is have the best teachers and pay them more. But they wouldn’t teach 30 kids, they might teach 10 million kids at a time, because it would be presented through the internet, with local teachers reinforcing the lessons.”

I went through the public school system in the 60s and 70s.

Before the Board of Education destroyed everything.

We had math.
We had flashcards.
We had phonics.
We had cursive writing.
We had classical literature.

We had teachers who thought TEACHING US was their actual job.

They thought MAKING US SMARTER was what they were there to do.

That’s why we boomers are able to read and write.

We know what big words like “oligarchy” and “authoritarian” mean when the democrats use them to lie about Trump.

And we aren’t confused about what gender we are, or which bathroom to use.

Because education was EDUCATION – NOT INDOCTRINATION.

So I’m absolutely fine with Trump shutting down the DOE.

And replacing it with something that will actually MAKE EDUCATION GREAT AGAIN.

Because WITH the DOE, you get entitled, lying race-hustlers like Jasmine Crockett.

WITHOUT THE DOE, you get MAGA AMERICANS LIKE ME.

None other than former Education Secretary William Bennett recently co-wrote an opinion piece siding with Trump on the matter of eliminating the agency he once oversaw.

As published by Newsweek:

Returning Education Department funds to families, as Trump has ordered, will accelerate this education freedom revolution. When all families have the ability to pursue the best education option for their children, we will see school quality, accountability, and trust improve.

In expressing his opposition to Trump’s decision, Fowler argued that “Our children deserve more thoughtful policy solutions that will ensure every one of them has access to a high-quality education—no matter where they live or how much their parents make.”

We couldn’t agree more. But history and common sense show the solution is boosting education freedom, not preserving the failed Washington status quo.
