Texas National Guard Soldier Arrested For Allegedly Attempting To Smuggle Illegal Immigrant [WATCH]

A Texas National Guard soldier was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle an illegal immigrant in a government vehicle.

“A Texas National Guard soldier deployed from McAllen to Eagle pass under Operation Lonestar was busted for attempting to smuggle an illegal immigrant in a government vehicle on Sunday,” NewsNation correspondent Ali Bradley wrote.

“Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe says the soldier turned around when he approached a pop-up tactical Border Patrol checkpoint off 674 in Kinney County that had only been operational for a few days—The behavior alerting agents who attempted to stop the suv—The sheriff says Texas DPS got involved with the pursuit and used spike strips which ultimately stopped the vehicle,” Bradley continued.

“KCSO assisted in the stop—TX DPS is currently investigating but sources tell me the soldier did not have access to the license plate readers or other technology that would have aided him in his efforts. He was armed so that escalated the smuggling charge. Sources say he was promised $5-6k to transport that one individual. I have reached out to DPS and Governor Abbott’s office for comment but have not heard back,” she added.

“TX: Kinney County Sheriff’s Deputy’s dashcam video showing the moments he arrives and pulls the Texas State Guard soldier from the government vehicle and puts him under arrest for human smuggling. Sources say he is expected to be released from jail today,” Bradley continued.

“Just received a statement from @GovAbbott office saying 'If the allegations are true, the accused is a traitor and criminal…' adding that he deserves more than the 10 year minimum sentence that would come alongside SB4,” she added.

“@TxDPS confirms 26-year-old Texas State Guard Solider Savion Johnson was arrested Sunday and is facing charges including evading arrest, smuggling of persons and unlawful carry of a weapon,” Bradley said.

“Sources confirm Johnson is a state guard member. Texas DPS did not make this determination in its statement,” she noted.

NewsNation reports:

The undocumented person authorities say the soldier was trying to transport fled from the SUV when caught by police, but eventually gave himself up to be processed by Border Patrol.

Sources say Johnson, who was promised $5,000 to $6,000, did not have access to license plate readers or other technology that could have aided him in his efforts. However, he was armed, authorities say, so the smuggling charge was elevated.

“We don’t know what’s going on in their lives to make them do this,” Coe said. “But they’re going to get caught.”

Two other women were previously caught in Kinney County along the same road, also for human smuggling.

“If the allegations are true, the accused is a traitor and criminal,” Abbott said in a statement to NewsNation Monday. “We have zero tolerance for Texans who violate laws that directly contradict the mission we are seeking to achieve.”

“Abbott has increased resources as part of Operation Lone Star, an effort to secure the southern border in what the state says is a lack of leadership from the federal government,” the New York Post stated.

“Construction is underway on the new Forward Operating Base in Eagle Pass. This base camp will house Texas National Guard soldiers deployed to respond to Biden’s border crisis. It will also provide our soldiers additional resources and regional support to secure the border,” Gov. Greg Abbott said.

From the New York Post:

Video of the arrest emerged on the same day the state squared off against the Justice Department in oral arguments before a panel of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals over its controversial anti-illegal immigration law.

The law, which allows local cops to arrest illegal immigrants, has been blocked after a lawsuit from the Biden administration.

“There’s always been people who cross the border,” Texas Solicitor General Aaron Nielson said in court, Fox News reported.

“But before, we talked about hundreds of thousands. Now, we talk about millions. Before, we talked about tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors. Now, we talk about hundreds of thousands. Before, we talked about a few countries. Now, we talk about essentially all countries,” he added. The Post has reached out to the Texas Military Department for comment.
