Trump Administration Reportedly To Halt Planned Parenthood Funding

The Trump administration is reportedly considering a pause on approximately tens of millions of dollars in funding for Planned Parenthood and other organizations.

“Between 2019-2021, Planned Parenthood performed 1.11 million abortions while receiving approximately $1.78 billion in federal funding. This is an average of $592 million every year or over 40% of their revenue. Nobody is fooled: For Planned Parenthood, money is fungible. Federal funds help prop up the murder mills they operate all across America,” Turning Point USA Founder & CEO Charlie Kirk said.

“American taxpayer dollars must NOT be used to kill innocent unborn babies. Republicans in Congress spent decades promising to do this, without delivering. Once again, Trump is getting it done,” he continued.

The Trump administration is reportedly expected to freeze about $20 million in funding for Planned Parenthood, among other organizations that receive family planning grants, as it reviews whether they’re in compliance with President Donald Trump’s directive for all federal contractors to root out all diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

About $120 million in grant funding for family planning to support pregnancy testing, access to birth control, infertility services and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, is expected to be put on hold as soon as this week, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed resources.

The funding freeze would impact about $20 million for Planned Parenthood clinics in about 12 states, according to the Journal, which reported the pause would be implemented so the Health and Human Services department can review whether the grant recipients are using the money for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

An unnamed HHS spokesperson told the Journal it was reviewing grant contracts to ensure recipients adhered to Trump’s executive orders.

Planned Parenthood, whose affiliates could lose roughly $20 million if the paused grants are ultimately cut, reacted with alarm.

“The Trump-Vance-Musk administration wants to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers by any means necessary, and they’ll end people’s access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more to do it,” Planned Parenthood Federation of America CEO Alex McGill Johnson told the newspaper.

Elsewhere, the administration is reportedly weighing cuts to the Centers for Disease Control’s HIV-prevention program.

Trump has also resurrected federal rules barring funds from being spent on abortions in the U.S. and abroad, and has pardoned anti-abortion activists.

His nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration has called for a review of a rule that allowed patients to get an abortion pill without seeing a healthcare provider in person.
