Per MercoPress:
Speaking at the American Patriots Gala hosted by conservative groups Make America Clean Again and We Fund the Blue at Mar-a-Lago, where he received the âLion of Liberty Awardâ for his commitment to freedom and free-market values, Milei outlined plans to adjust Argentine regulations to meet US reciprocity demands. Joining the Libertarian leader were Ministers Luis Toto Caputo (Economy) and Gerardo Werthein (Foreign Affairs).
Milei highlighted progress in resolving trade barriers, noting that five of eight initial issues have been addressed, with further steps pending. The negotiations aim to enhance trade flow for key exports, which represent 80% of Argentinaâs sales to the U.S., without disrupting ties with Mercosur.
The South American head of State also emphasized his goal of making Argentina the âfreest economy in the worldâ and touted his administrationâs economic achievements, reportedly including 6% growth and lifting 20% of the population out of poverty since December 2023.
âFor all these objectives and measures, the whole of politics, the media, the unions and many businessmen accommodated by the previous regime repeated over and over again that it was impossible to function,â the Argentine President stressed.
âOur reform agenda continues because our goal is to be the freest country in the world,â he insisted.

From the Associated Press:
In Buenos Aires, Mileiâs government sought to reconcile Trumpâs major round of tariffs with its own radical libertarian ideology and fervent support for free trade.
âWe do not believe this is an attack on free trade, quite the opposite,â Mileiâs spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, said of Trumpâs announcement. âI donât see why there should be so much concern about this.â
For all the leadersâ mutual flattery, Argentina was slapped with a 10% minimum tariff. But officials framed it as uniquely preferential treatment. The front page of Argentinaâs largest-circulation daily, ClarĂn, declared: âTrump raises the tax on our products less than on other countries.â
In Washington, Argentine Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein on Thursday held what he described as âhighly productiveâ meetings with top U.S. trade negotiator Jamieson Greer and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, releasing rosy statements promising that Argentina was on its way to negotiating a free-trade agreement with the U.S.
