Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec spoke with Liz Collin of Alpha News about the lasting impact of the George Floyd riots, the rise in crime, and the false narratives that still surrounds the cultural riots of 2020. As the five-year mark passes, Collin reflected on the stark contrast between what has changed—and what hasn’t.

“In many ways, so much has changed,” Collin said. “But then again I get reminded this week, if you pay any attention to the mainstream news, how little has changed.”

Collins described how the media still pushes the completely false “peaceful protest” narrative, despite the destruction made by leftists in the wake of the riots in Minnesota. “We still have this sort of peaceful protest messaging that’s being put on us here in Minnesota despite 1,500 businesses being damaged or destroyed in the riots,” she said. “And let’s not forget about the homicide rate that has completely skyrocketed in the last few years, and crime rate just overall—not just in Minneapolis but across the state of Minnesota and across the country.”

“I truly think, Jack, until people acknowledge this and tell the truth, I’m not sure how this gets better.”

Posobiec echoed the frustration, saying, “Psychologically, it’s one of these things where people would much rather believe their narratives… because it was so polarized at the time, no one wanted to hear the truth. Here we are five years later, and I think people are finally starting to be able to hear it, but unfortunately for Derek Chauvin… he’s still behind bars.”

Collin said that rumors of a pardon for Chauvin have circulated, but she believes they were politically driven. “There were some rumors circulating recently that we chose not to report on because, again, it seemed almost like something being stirred by the left that President Trump would grant him a federal pardon,” she said. “What complicates things as well is that he’d still be brought to Minnesota and our Governor Tim Walz and AG Keith Ellison couldn’t say enough when those rumors were circulating that no, he’s going to come back here and serve every last second in a state prison.”

"You do see, Jack, and I’m sure you see this—the comments and how the tide has turned quite a bit when it comes to this situation because this thing, simply, before, people weren’t exactly aware of what took place.”

“That’s what we’ve been trying to do,” she said. “At least there are facts now and there’s no excuse, really, not to know. That’s been my message all along: Question this information, think for yourself, think critically instead of just taking what these people are saying for the truth.”
