Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson has died, his family announced Wednesday on social media. Wilson was 82.

The Beach Boys began as a local California band and rose to fame in the 1960s, according to the Associated Press. 

They had such hits as “Good Vibrations” and “California Girls." 

"Wilson himself was celebrated for his gifts and pitied for his demons," the wire service writes in its obituary for him.
