At least eight people were arrested by Capitol Police on Monday, outside of Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance's office for protesting about climate change.
The protesters said they are trying to expose Vance's "hypocrisy" by claiming that he is for the American people when he's actually trying to "take away good, green job creation." Vance was recently announced as former President Donald Trump's running mate for the upcoming presidential election.
Capitol Police said they arrested a total of eight protesters, after they urged the protesters to leave Vance's office. When they refused, more officers arrived to arrest them using zip ties, The Hill reported.
The demonstrators were part of the Sunrise Movement's group of protesters, who gathered outside of the senator's office on Monday to sing and chant “Vance is a liar, our planet is on fire.”
“JD Vance claims to be fighting for working people, but the reality is that he’s willing to sell out for a couple hundred thousand dollars,” Aru Shiney-Ajay, the Sunrise Movement’s executive director, told The Hill.
”We’re trying to expose the hypocrisy and the corruption that he stands for and cut through the narrative that he’s for the Midwest or for Appalachia," she continued. "He’s pushing policies that will cause flooding, heatwaves, price increases. He’s taking away good, green job creation."
Neither Vance nor his office has commented on the arrests or protests so far, but Just The News has reached out to his office for comment.
