Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., participated in a panel discussion on Capitol Hill on Wednesday that was co-hosted by two left-leaning groups with members tied to radical and anti-Israel activism.
At the heath care panel discussion, Warren touted the Corporate Crimes Against Healthcare Act, which she introduced to combat private equity "looting" of the U.S. healthcare system.
The act, Warren told attendees, will strengthen reporting requirements and hold private equity investors and executives criminally responsible for patient deaths that result from private equity extracting life-saving equipment from hospitals for profit.
The act also allows the Justice Department and states' attorneys general to claw back ill-gotten compensation, crack down on real estate trusts that charge hospitals extortionate rent, and deny federal healthcare benefits to hospitals that sell their land to trusts.
"The Role of Private Equity in Healthcare" panel, held on July 31, featured speakers from the left-leaning Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) and the Private Equity Stakeholder Project (PESP).
CEPR and PESP have received funding from the George Soros-backed Open Society Foundations (OSF).
CEPR has received $790,425 from OSF since 2016. PESP, under other names like Financial Services Stakeholder Action (or Project), has received $475,000 from OSF since 2019.
The groups' members have a history of controversial statements about Israel.
On June 22, CEPR co-founder and senior economist Dean Baker tweeted that Israel "should be referred to as a state 'controlled by Jews" instead of the "Jewish state."
On May 16, Baker tweeted that the U.S. was "now importing fascism from Israel."
On February 7, Baker tweeted that an ICJ ruling against Israel should "turbo-charge" the boycott, divest, and sanction movement against Israel.
After the October 7, 2023, Hamas terror attacks on Israel, PESP senior research coordinator Abhilasha Bhola posted "from the river to the sea" on Twitter, Fox Business reported.
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) explains this phrase is a "catch-all phrase symbolizing Palestinian control over the entire territory of Israel’s borders, from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea."
Bhola has also embraced radicalism, tweeting in 2016 that she is a "Marxist," Fox Business reported. The tweet has been deleted.
Fox Business also reported Bhola liked an "X post of a pro-Palestinian protester defacing a painting of Lord Balfour" and has embraced boycotting Israel.
PESP senior research coordinator K Agbebiyi attended a November 2023 D.C. rally "demanding an end to the genocide in Palestine."
Fox Business reported Agbebiyi posted a picture of a mural reading "liberation looks like terrorism in the eyes of the oppressor" and that she signed an open letter criticizing the University of Michigan for its "exchange programs and strategic partnerships with Israeli universities."
In 2022, Agbebiyi tweeted she was "becoming more principled of a Marxist." She also described herself as a "communist."
Agbebiyi also praised campus anti-Israel protests for "reinvigorat[ing] the fight by putting activism against ‘Israel’s’ genocidal reign of terror back on the front pages of the internet," Fox Business reported.
"I want to be clear, I am in full support of these brave and passionate students," Agbebiyi said.
Agbebiyi reportedly referred to arrested anti-Israel protestors as "political prisoners" and asked for contributions to bail funds.
Agbebiyi also shared a picture of herself at an anti-Israel rally wearing a "Dykes for Palestine" shirt less than a month after the Hamas terror attacks.
PESP senior research coordinator Azani Creeks participated in an anti-Israel protest in January 2024 in New York City and was arrested for disorderly conduct, the New York Post reported.
She appeared at the protest alongside the radical Democratic Socialists of America.
PESP senior research coordinator Amanda Mendoza, Fox Business reported, has liked posts "celebrating civil disobedience from anti-Israel protesters blocking traffic and posts accusing President Biden of committing 'genocide' against Palestinians."
Mendoza reportedly liked an X post "criticizing the president of the University of California system for sending an email expressing concern about antisemitism."
PESP investment engagement director Alyssa Giachino reportedly reposted a video of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., accusing Israel of committing war crimes and demanding a ceasefire.
Giachino liked another X post leveling similar accusations and "accusing the New York Times of 'manufacturing consent for genocide' through its reporting," Fox Business reported.
On October 23, 2023, the PESP staff union released a statement "call[ing] for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for the end of Israel’s occupation of Palestine."
