The publishing company HarperCollins said on Thursday that it is issuing a lot of reprints of Ohio Sen. JD Vance's memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" now that he has become former President Donald Trump's running mate.

Trump announced Vance as his vice presidential pick during the Republican convention last week, where both men formally accepted their party's nomination to lead the GOP ticket.

The announcement saw sales of the best-selling book skyrocket, and more than 650,000 copies have been sold since July 15, according to the Associated Press. The number includes physical copies, as well as audio and E-books.

“We are printing hundreds of thousands of copies to fill the demand at our retail partners,” a spokesperson for the publisher said.

The book examines Vance's childhood and life in rural Ohio, along with his ties to Appalachian Kentucky. The book, which was released in 2016, was adapted into a movie of the same name in 2020.

The book has been cited as a must-read for people curious about Trump's appeal to the white working class, but some critics claim it paints a misleading view of poverty in the United States.
