Kansas senator expresses support for Trump Education Secretary nominee Linda McMahon after meeting

Kansas GOP Sen. Roger Marshall on Monday praised Linda McMahon as President-elect Donald Trump's pick for Education secretary, declaring that she would make a "phenomenal Secretary of Education," following a meeting on Capitol Hill.

McMahon, who previously led the Small Business Administration (SBA) during Trump's first term in office and most recently served as his transition team co-chair, is one of a handful of the former president's Cabinet nominees on the Hill this week to meet with senators ahead of their confirmation hearings early next year.

Marshall, who met with McMahon on Monday morning, said the nominee has his "full support" and would help return control over education to individual states.

“Linda McMahon will be a phenomenal Secretary of Education. She will prioritize outcomes for our students and empower parents across America," Marshall said in a statement. "Her leadership will mark a significant step toward returning control of education to the states as President Trump has called for. We have much to do to undo the damage caused over these last few years, and McMahon is the leader for the job.”

“Linda is a steadfast advocate for parents’ rights, a proven business leader, and successfully led the Small Business Administration to new heights during President Trump’s first administration," he continued. "I was honored to meet with Linda today- she has my full support.”

McMahon confirmed her support for Trump's education policies in a comment to ABC News on Monday, but declined to comment on reports that he could eliminate the department.

"President Trump and I have had lots of conversations, and I think his views he's making clear on his own," McMahon said. "I'm not going to get ahead of his policy."
