A third high-ranking Pentagon official was suspended on Wednesday, amid an investigation into alleged national security leaks that stem from the Department of Defense (DoD).
The suspension comes after Dan Caldwell, a top adviser to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, was placed on leave on Tuesday in connection with the leaks. The Pentagon announced last month that it was investigating leaks of national security information.
Darin Selnick, the Defense Department’s deputy chief of staff, was also suspended on Tuesday.
A defense official told Politico on Wednesday that Colin Carroll, chief of staff to Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg, has now become the third person suspended for his alleged role in the leaks. It is not clear what role he allegedly played.
The leaks are supposedly related to military operation plans for the Panama Canal, a carrier heading to the Red Sea, Elon Musk’s visit to the Pentagon to discuss China and a pause in the collection of intelligence for Ukraine, the official said.
Hegseth has not commented on the suspensions so far.
