Star Wars Actress Fired By Disney For Political Views Wins Key Ruling In Lawsuit

Star Wars Actress Fired By Disney For Political Views Wins Key Ruling In Lawsuit

Disney argued for dismissal, ironically on First Amendment grounds

Actress Gina Carano, who was fired from the Disney produced Star Wars show The Mandalorian for essentially expressing her political and cultural opinions, has won a key victory in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against the company.

As we previously highlighted, Carano was fired by Disney in 2021 after a social media post in which she compared a mob seeking to destroy someone’s life over their political leanings to the Nazi government in Germany encouraging people to hate Jews before The Holocaust.

While this post was singled out by Disney, what really got Carano fired was more likely her conservatism, expressions of support for Donald Trump and skepticism about the integrity of the 2020 election, her opposition to and ridiculing of mask mandates, COVID lockdowns, and COVID vaccinations, and some spicy memes about transgender pronouns.

In other words, Carano did nothing wrong. The cancel mob targeted her because in a world of insipid conformity and ruthless ideological servility, she has the bravado to think for herself and say what she thinks. She represents the threat of a good example.

Here’s the backstory:

Disney attempted to have the lawsuit dismissed on the grounds of First Amendment rights, despite the fact that the company fired Carano for exercising hers.

Now, however, a federal judge in LA has denied Disney’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. Disney had argued that it has “a right to dissociate its own artistic message from Carano’s outspoken ‘political beliefs.’”

Carano responded to the ruling on an X post, noting “I am moved to tears. After a brutal 3 1/2 years, I am being given the opportunity to move forward in the court of law before the judge and my peers to clear my name. I am so grateful for this opportunity.”

She continued, “What happened to me was unacceptable, absurd and abusive, among other things. It should not have happened to me, and it should not happen to anyone else moving forward. Let it stop here.”

“I quite literally fought to get to where I got to in my career through intense ups and downs, and I’ll keep up that fight to continue doing what I love,” Carano continued, adding “I appreciate all of you who stood by me and defended me, and I am so sorry that similar situations have happened to some of you. I want you to know that I see you and I stand with you.”

The fighter turned actress also thanked Elon Musk, who is funding her legal fight after promising to help anyone who was discriminated against for exercising their First Amendment rights on X.

“Thank you to @elonmusk, a man I have never even met, who so graciously gave me a fighting chance,” Carano wrote, adding “Thank you for standing for justice for all of humanity. May God bless you and your family for years to come because He has chosen you for such a time as this”

“Thank you all. I’m sure it will be quite a battle ahead, but God’s given me the ability to take some punches and give some back,” Carano concluded.

Carano says that her firing has cost millions in potential income and is seeking a court mandate for either reinstatement in The Mandalorian or compensation of at least $75,000.

In a recent interview, Carano said she doesn’t regret her social media posts and that if anything she believes she should have been more vocal.

“So, when people ask me if I would’ve done anything different, I would’ve screamed,” the actress asserted during an emotional exchange.

“I would’ve screamed so much louder,” Carano continued, adding “Everything I was saying, from lockdowns to masks, to vaccines: ‘Question everything. Do not allow these people to force this on you. Pay attention.’ I would’ve screamed it.”

“So, I’m not sorry. I’m not sorry for what I said. For what I posted. For what I was standing for. For what I was screaming for, or trying to scream for. I’m not sorry,” she further urged.
