President Trump’s Department of Justice has announced that it is suing the Maine Department of Education for refusing to block biological males from competing in women’s sports, in defiance of an Executive Order signed by Trump in February.
Attorney General Pam Bondi remarked “the state of Maine is discriminating against women by failing to protect women in women’s sports, pretty basic stuff. This is a violation of Title IX.”
“The Department of Justice will not sit by when women are discriminated against in sports,” Bondin continued, adding “This is about sports. This is also about these young women’s personal safety, and what they have been through is horrific.”

“We have exhausted every other remedy. We tried to get Maine to comply. We don’t like standing up here and filing lawsuits. We want to get states to comply with us. That’s what this is about,” Bondi further urged.
“We have repeatedly notified Maine of its infractions and urged them to remedy the situation. We’ve stripped grants from Maine through other departments, and we are going to continue to fight for women,” she concluded.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon chimed in, noting “we want to make sure that if you open women’s sports or intimate facilities to males, you expose yourself to federal civil rights investigations.”

McMahon added that Maine “Governor Mills will definitely get her wish,” referring to the epic confrontation between her and Trump in February, when he ordered her to comply and she sardonically replied “see you in court.”
CBS News reports that the lawsuit charges that Maine’s Department of Education is “openly and defiantly flouting anti-discrimination law by enforcing policies that require girls to compete against boys in athletic competitions designated exclusively for girls,” and that the practice violates Title IX’s “core protections.”
It adds, “The United States accordingly files this action to stop Maine’s unapologetic sex-discrimination against female student athletes.”
