In a recently released interview, the disruptive entrepreneur Elon Musk spoke about the 2024, suggeting that he might endorse a presidential candidate “in the final stretch” of the election season.

During his interview with former CNN host Don Lemon, Musk expressed his intention to consider his choice carefully before making any endorsements.

“I may, in the final stretch, endorse a candidate, but I don’t know yet,” Mr. Musk said. “I want to make a considered decision before the election, and if I do decide to endorse a candidate, then I will explain exactly why.”

Musk discussed both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump without showing a clear preference for either. However, he mentioned a tendency to lean away from Biden, prompting Lemon to speculate about a potential endorsement of Trump.

“A lot can happen between now and the election. So we'll see who in their final analysis are the choices for president,” Musk said.

Musk also revealed an accidental meeting with Trump in Florida, during which he noted that Trump did most of the talking and did not ask for donations. Musk stated his intention not to financially support any political candidates, emphasizing his desire to express his opinions without significantly influencing the election through monetary contributions.

“While I'll voice my opinion, I think I don’t want to put a thumb on the scale monetarily that is significant,” the Afrikaner added.

Previously, Musk had endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the presidency, though DeSantis later withdrew from the race. Musk has criticized the Democratic Party and aligned with Republican stances on issues like censorship and immigration, even warning against the security risks posed by unvetted illegal immigrants. He has been vocal about his disapproval of the Biden administration’s border policies and accused Democrats of attempting to secure a permanent majority by not deporting illegal immigrants.

Musk's ownership of X, formerly Twitter, has also seen a shift in the platform's political bias, with Musk reinstating several conservative accounts, including Trump's. He described the original Twitter team as “an extremely left-leaning group,” highlighting the platform's history of political bias before his acquisition.

Despite his misgivings about progressivism, Musk has maintained an often fraught relationship with Trump, going so far as to compare the former President to Musk's much-despised father. He has been critical of Trump's climate policies, stepping away from an advisory council for Trump in protest of the latter's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords in 2017.
